Hi Folks,
Just received an email relating to ‘Aircraft Spotter’ at both Heathrow & Gatwick….
No additional or specific information available at this time so perhaps the best was to react to this news is to simply stay away from what we can all observe as Airport Property. Anyway, here’s the detail;
“Aircraft spotters are not allowed on airport property'. What a joke. Is that an airport by-law?."
Actually, yes, it is. You are not allowed on airport property without authorised access. Planespotting doesn't count. That's why you are supposed to stay outside of the perimeter road at the Lowfield Heath gate, and also do not go on to the inner perimeter road at the 26 end. There are signs up at both of these places saying so.
Obviously it's been accepted in the past, but the authorities are within their rights to move you on, and as annoying as it is, you shouldn't argue with them. Unfortunatley, unless things change, there won't be an official viewing area any time soon, so make the most of what we have without rocking the boat.“
Whilst this email specifically refers to area’s at Gatwick, the fact they also mention Heathrow should act as a deterrent. Let’s see if Heathrow issue any official and additional warnings.
So like they used to say in Hill Street Blue’s, Let’s be Careful Out There….
Bill

One would guess this is Ukraine related, however, the perimeter road at LHR is and has always been private property, there are signs at each entry point stating this. I remember the army partroling the perimeter in Scorpion tanks during the Irish situation and police doing stop and search on cars during that period, I believe fines were handed out to drivers who weren't there for a valid reason. There is also the rise in social media, bought to the fore by BJ tv during the recent storm (im still not sure he had permision to be in that field) which now have people wanting to come from far and wide to have a look see at the planes. Added to this many spotters groups on faceache are posting photos from staff car parks, rubble mounds opposite T5 and other places that are technically trespassing which again is attracting lots of attention When I worked in the Horseshoe there was a spate of thefts from cars parked in the car park, theives knew cars were parked for 12 hours and would time their visits accordingly, reluctantly BAA then started partolling the car park, not sure if thats still the case though as havn't parked there for over 10 years now It was so much easier when spotters could be easily identified by their anorach, bins and notepad 😁

I too saw this on a LAAS site yesterday ! This happens from time to time and usually set off by a new head of police for the airport or , more often , some idiot doing something they should not , with in a place they should not be . Not always spotters I must add . During the early Concord days Joe public would turn up and park along the Northern Perimeter road at LHR . Result was those panels fixed to the fence and Mr Plod getting upset . The police have admitted that we can help by being extra eyes but not all of them see it like that . Just be careful and do not draw attention . Chrisj
