I wasn't quite sure where to put this but I guess Derry is a regional airport? The only other movements on the day I was there were the same aircraft back and forth to Liverpool. I booked a day trip to Derry with Loganair as I hadn't flown on a rear engined Embraer so I ended up on board G-SAJK both ways. The trip had little spotting merit but I did make some at Stansted, mostly Ryanair scrapes or Maxs but I also saw some light aircraft in the distance outside a couple of hangars at Derry or Eglinton as it's otherwise known. There was a PA22 that I could read and an RV4 that I needed and identified from a residents list and its distinctive colour scheme. Also in view were three PA28s, one N reg, and a PA31 with no props. I also saw the local air ambulance while I was in the city.

Derry is quite an interesting city with its original city walls vitually intact and I walked all the way around taking in the great views. There is also a Derry Girls trail for fans of the tv series taking in locations used on the show and a huge mural on the side of a house near the centre. Typical of Northern Ireland, there are many more murals around the city, some of which can be seen from the walls. Finally, in terms of refreshment, there are a few small craft breweries there, none of which sell real ale but I enjoyed an ale from the Dopey Dick brewery at the Guildhall Taphouse where it was brewed and their food was delicious too. Incidentily, the Dopey Dick apparently comes from a whale that got stranded in the River Foyle in the past! The flight cost me £80 return which I thought was good value. Hopefully my next report will contain much more aviation themes!
