Great finale Keith.
Have fond memories of BCAL, especially being picked up, several times, exiting Saudi Arabia (Jeddah) on our way home from Middle East trips. G-BHDH DC-10 several times from Jeddah… Those lovely tartan uniforms with white blouse’s and a stiff G&T….
Cheers boys.

I'd totally forgotten about the departure time from Dulles on the way home Keith. 8pm, seven (?) hour flight, then add on five hours, so we would have arrived back at Gatwick around 8am the next day having had zero kip on the flight and not that much whilst we were in Washington. I distinctly remember sleeping for well over 12 hours once I'd arrived home, not that I have the faintest idea how I got home. I imagine it would have been the train to Reading with you guys, then train to Chippenham. I was also thinking that when I bumped into you and Dave at Biggin Hill in summer 1971, that that would've been the first time I'd seen you since the family moved to Wiltshire in 1969 but of course, we met up for the World Aerobatic Championships at Hullavington in 1970. Again, I haven't a clue how we got out to the airfield. Show me your’s, and I’ll show you mine!!! 😂😂😂😂 Bill P.S. That was reference to the passport photos….

It was on the flight back to the U.K that I booked a seat on a charter flight going to Turin the following Wednesday for the Turin Airshow on board a BAC 1-11 of Dan Air G-AXCK and where we nearly had a mid air collision over the Alps with I think an Iberia DC9. With regards to Hullavington we hitch hiked a lift to the airfield with a vicar (God bless him) but sure cannot remember how we got home again.

Dave, I was at Hullavington for the World Aerobatic Championships as well but I was on a coach with the Merseyside Society of Aviation Enthusiasts (MSAE). I'm sure we visited Staverton on the same trip to visit the Skyframe Museum. Happy Days Bob

Just think Bob, we may well have walked past each other and never would have known. I was only 14 in 1970 and although Hullavington was only a 30 minute ride from home back then, I haven't the faintest idea how I got there and back. My only thought is that it was a coach trip organised by Cyril H Thomas who would cart me to Biggin Hill the following year. I know I did a couple of Greenham Tattoos with them, one of which turned into a massive piss up on the way home.....;0)

My only trip to Hullavington was as an air cadet, when I learned how to pack a parachute. You will be pleased to hear that parachute was then taken out of active service, but made for a useful demonstration at the annual inspection day!

Used to do lots of mad trips with the MSAE in those days some in Mini-Buses and the majority in coaches. They were indeed happy days. Happy Days Bob

Morning Bob, if I recall it was the 1977 Greenham Tattoo where it turned out that the driver was the Dad of one of the chaps on the coach who I knew, and it just turned into a pub crawl all the way home. I recall we stopped at a pub in Hungerford, then one halfway between Hungerford and Marlborough, then one in Marlborough before heading back to Calne. Goodness knows what time the coach firm was expecting us back but we must've been at least a couple of hours late.
