My new job asked for voulenteers for a trip to the Northeast, I voulenteered having never been past York on that side. Thankfully i was left alone to plan my own route.
27/6
Leeming was the first real stop around 10am and seen from the viewing area in the rain were the following Qatari Hawks ZB131,133,134,135,136 plus 3 Tutor’s that I didn’t need anyway G-BYVD,XJ,YA
The weather wasn’t great at this point but decided on a visit to Fishburn. A frustrating place with over 40 I need here all in small hangars that were firmly shut with nobody around. Place was deserted only the café open. Noted was G-BOJZ PA28, BBCN Robin plus the preserved J-1790 Venom, ZG743 Vampire, D-IFSA Dove,XN458 jet provost and G-AYTA Rallye.
I was way ahead of time so aimed for Newcastle. This was more to just say I had been there than in the hope of seeing much. Just a BA A320 visible on the terminal and a Ryanair departing, but made G-MOFO C172 and SMBA C210 among a couple of unreadable PA28’s.
Next had to actually do some work and pick up three printers from the Peterlee area. Shotton was round the corner and lies at the back on an industrial estate. Para drop hangar was open but the C208 was away, and nobody had the keys for the other hangar. Just Bolkow G-AZOA outside.
Decided to try Fishburn again as the weather had improved but only logged a handful more, 95% were shut up, well it was Monday and the place was still pretty much deserted.
Onto Teesside, along with Newcastle the only English scheduled airports I had not been to. Nothing on the terminal but bagged N265EM Let 39 of Draken, G-BTFP PA38, CMAH C152, PHUN C152, BPES and OEFT PA38. Otherwise just a few Draken Falcons and a stored RAM 737
Hotel was near Leeds and a quick stop at Leeming saw additional hawk ZB132
28/6 Gamston was first stop on my way back to Hampshire and they were starting to pull some aircraft out at 08:30 DA42’s 9H-DGB, G-DJET,WKTG, EMPP plus Cessnas G-BBEO,BAPI,PHOR,PPFS,BFSA
Next was a big loop to a very active Cranwell XW353 Jet provost was made on the gate, active were ZM334,337 Phenom, ZM300,301,302,303,304,308,312,313,318 Grobs
On the way back to the A1 the sat nav brought me past Barkston Heath with Grobs ZM315,320,322 sitting outside.
Was pushed for time by now and a quick stop at Conington produced a handful but nothing I needed, shadow of its former self it seems. Finally a quick stop at Luton produced the normal haul.
Happy with what I got seeing it cost me nothing.
