I got back on Monday from my trip to Oshkosh - AirVenture 2022. An excellent 6 days.
I started out on Thursday 21st July for Heathrow and spent the Friday at Farnborough and all day Saturday at Heathrow.
Sunday I was at Heathrow 3 hours before my flight and only took hand baggage, one small case to go in the overhead locker and a small camera bag. The queue's for security where enormous and took nearly 1 1/2 hours to get through.
Flight AAL87 was operated by B787 N828AA. This took off about on time and the flight to Chicago-O'Hare took Hour7:50.
As I had a window seat I was able to log quite a lot as we were delayed getting on to our stand at the arrivals terminal for more the 20 minutes.. Immigration and baggage collection was completed in less the 1/2 an hour and the group then headed north for Oshkosh town where most were staying and Green Bay were the group I was with were staying.
Enroute we passed the Russell Military Museum and the 3 aircraft that had arrived since my visit in 2014 were visible. An A-7D, A-10A and CH-46E Sea Knight.
The next 6 days were spent at Oshkosh. It was very hot but the threatened thunderstorms stayed away. It only rained while we were traveling. A violent thunderstorm had crossed the Oshkosh area on the Saturday and caused some damage on the airfield and trees where down in Oshkosh town. I walked around 7 miles each day visiting all the parking areas at least once but didn't see everything. I wasn't logging every Cessna & Piper and concentrated on the more interesting types. I found it nearly impossible to write and photograph so used a small Dictaphone to record numbers and types. I looked at Boeing Plaza every day, this is where the main static is and changes on a daily basis.
The hotel was the Best Western at Green Bay, very comfortable and has a sports bar serving very good beer, local IPA's amongst others and is located right next to the Green Bay Packers stadium.
We left for Chicago on Sunday morning and called at Fon Du Lac which is south of Oshkosh and serves as an overflow field for the arrivals. Most aircraft had departed but we had airside access and I logged over 60 here.
We where at Chicago a little late due to problems on the road but the queue for security was soon got through and a hours spotting logged a few more for the trip. Flight AAL86 was operated on time by N826AN and arrived at Heathrow shortly after 6am (7 hour flight). I was on the train into central London by 06:45 and I think everyone got there bags. By the time I returned home I had a very bad head cold which took a day or 2 to clear up.
I will post some photos eventually, but its going to take some time to sort my logs first and then the photos.
