Morning all
Just coming to the end of a week’s holiday in Paphos. First time in Cyprus and it’s been fantastic. The hotel is only about 3- 4 miles from the end of the runway so I see most of the traffic (although as noted on AFA before, there isn’t a huge amount of interest).
However, I have a few requests and hope somebody can help….
Firstly the Shackletons. The 2 Shackleton AEW.2s (WL747 and WL757) are clearly visible next to the Flamant, at the end of the runway. Seen those 2 before, one of them in 1982 at Stapleford of all places!
But eurodemobbed still lists a third Shackleton- the fuselage of a T2, WR967. Does anyone know if this still exists or has it been cleared? If it exists, where is it? I can’t find it on satellite images.
Similarly, eurodemobbed lists 2 PZL Kania helicopters - 204 and 205 ex Cyprus National Guard. Only one seems to be sat outside now (from the most recent photos I suspect it is 205). Can anyone help with this?
Lastly, there are a few Air Tractor AT-802s operating from here which I haven’t read off yet. Maybe I’ll get chance at the airport tomorrow. But FR24 and ADSB show 2 of those that I’ve seen flying as CC-DER and LV-JUQ. Is anyone able to confirm that these registrations are still current and correct?
Many thanks Phil

Hi Phil,
Not sure how accurate this is but according to FR24 ‘on the ground’ list one of the Air Tractor’s is CC-DER.
Details are: AT-802 s/n 802-0854 and it’s 2 years old.
Seemingly was airborne on Aug 25th and 23rd…
Hope this helps mate. No idea about the Shackleton…
Enjoy Cyprus.
Bill
EDIT:
According to my Wreck & Relics, WR967 Shackleton T.2 and G-JETP Jet Provost T4 are both dumped near the EDT Hangar Services. It’s position is West of the main passenger terminal. The two other Shack’s and Flamant (F-AZEN) is at the Western end of the runway. If you take off from that end keep and eye on the left hand side, which looks like a fire training area, where a Kania (205) is positioned - doesn’t look in great shape….
Cheers Phil.
Bill
LV-JUQ (802-0856) was flying on August 26th, 24th & 23rd…

Have been to Paphos a few times and also Larnaca where I did log two Fire Department Air Tractors FD/1 and FD/2 also remember seeing the Flamant and the two Shacks at Paphos. Paphos was a bit quiet when we last visited and I assume it was even quieter now the Russians aren't visiting- as would Larnaca where 50% of the movements seen were Russian or Ukrainian. We stayed at the Olympic Lagoon in Paphos and also in Larnaca. Happy days Bob

Thanks Bill- good to know the 2 Air Tractor regs are correct:
I saw the 2 Shack AEWs on landing but have seen them before. It’s the fuselage of the T2 that I need, but thanks to your note I think I can see where it is on Google maps!
Also saw the Kania, but didn’t know if it was 204 or 205 so thanks for that,
Cheers

Hi Phil
PlaneBase lists these as based, I've placed a "W" against the withdrawn stuff, the rest apparently is active

The Cypriot Mil 35s were all sold to Serbia at the end of last year.

Thanks Dave, that's the problem with any database such as PlaneBase, it's only as accurate as when it was last updated.

The only ones from that list that I saw, I’ve left in the above list. Sadly I didn’t see the 3rd Shackleton which was the one I was hoping for! I did manage to take blurry photos from our plane of the 2 AT-802s discussed above, confirming them as CC-DER and LV-JUQ ! cheers

we were at the Louis Imperial Beach, which is right next door to the Olympic Lagoon! Ideal spot to see stuff landing across the bay into Paphos Phil- we enjoyed the walk most days down into the town and sit by the harbour. Must admit my favourite town in Cyprus- better than Ayia Napa. Protaras is also nice- we had our honeymoon there with 14 of our friends. Happy Days Bob

It'll be our first continental holiday since 2018 in about a fortnight's time. We were booked for Zakynthos in September 2019 but Dougie our Springer ruptured one of his back legs' cruciate ligaments, this meant a big op plus a ten week recuperation period which fell smack bang into the middle of our holiday so we had no option but to cancel. Then of course, along came Covid.
So, off to Rhodes, a beautiful island with so much to see, plus where we are staying is right on the east coast bus routes to Rhodes Town. It'll be our fourth visit so we're hoping that our favourite bars and restaurants have been able to weather two years of virtually no visitors.
