I spent a very interesting evening yesterday, listening to a presentation by a RNethAF pilot (F16s and now training on PC7s) given at the British Legion in Halstead, Kent.
He has been finding bits of aluminium and metal in the forest near his base at Woensdrecht. After 5 years of research, he has definitively identified these as parts of AA804, flown by P/O CHarles Piers Egerton Hall, who was captured, sent to Stalag Luft iii and took part in the great escape, then murdered by the Gestapo.
The Hall family lived in Halstead during the war, hence the connection.
The first half was very technical about parts and part numbers, which was fine for me, but a bit heavy for some. The second half was about the escape.
Always impressive that someone can deliver a technical presentation in their second language.

Hi Phil,
Thats a pretty amazing story. Isn’t it lovely that 78 years after Ft Lt Hall’s execution/murder he’s remembered by so many people on his own turf.
Well done Phil, hopefully all who attended enjoyed the remembrance of an RAF true hero. God bless him.
Bill

Yes, I forgot to include that he had been promoted to Flt Lt by the time of his murder.
