Been following this since it hit the headlines a few days back but now it is no longer wandering the skies I'm sure it will all go quiet for a while. So my thoughts, what if it was indeed a weather balloon as the Chinese state, what if it just the media and then social media that have have hyped up the 'spy' part. I've seen nothing from the government to say it was indeed spying apart for mentions of where it was floating, although I not seen anything from them saying it wasn't. I guess at that height it could be seen to have been flyng over a large area and how do you direct a free floating object anyway.
I guess the end of the day this will be just like Roswell in years to come but without any aliens

And there's supposed to be another one over South America.

Even if it was a "spy" balloon, the Chinese would never admit to it but regardless of what is was, it had violated US airspace so the Chinese can't really get angry because it was destroyed. The thing was controllable apparently so their statement that it had "veered off course" doesn't wash especially now that allegedly, a second one has been spotted.
