Mainly for the novelty value ,I have included this.
After 30 years living 10 miles north in Burghfield Common, and many train journeys on the train from Reading to Basingstoke (all drink related-as I use the car any other time ) seeing anything from this camp is almost impossible.
Late last year 4-6 of the new AH-64E operated from here for 2 days to no avail
So on Thursday 2nd March I noticed N-319 NH-90 Royal Netherlands Navy one of the 2 based at Yeovilton on FR24 heading as I thought towards the M3 transit as I thought heading homewith his mate after a a sudden orbit near Newbury it continued but descended at Bramley.
Jumping in the car I drove the 20 minutes to the Area as it is more like a Wooded Fort Knox....I drove round trying to find somewhere that might give me a view point when it was going back to Yeovilton after this task so on the west side.
I suddenly saw it (on its own) to my right turning and stopped outside a car mechanics farm workshop.....of he came out he came out and asked if he could help me (bu##er I thought) ,I told him and he said feel free to pull on to his land and wait as It was the lowest he had seen a helicopter (RAF Odiham do use the area occasionally)
It took another 20 minutes of listening ,odd sights throw trees FR2 watching it came out heading back (well that was an effort at my local ) just need to get one landing at AWE Aldermaston or AWE Burghfield although it has provided an Open Skies AN-30 at 2,000ft many years ago.
3 Chinooks ZH900 ,901 and 904 from May 2010-2012 , have been gained by me locally at one of the local schools as our village is home one of the Married locations for RAF Odiham ,but they added to the school so they cannot now fit on the field .
SO hear it is !!!!!!!!
