This afternoon saw a very unusual visitor to Heathrow: N124DA by See Bee, on Flickr Can't remember the last time I saw something like this land here. It was actually pinging as C6-ATI on the radar apps. I read that it was a weather diversion from Luton. Unfortunately it was the first to land on 27R so a long range shot.

Found it after a bit of a playback hunt on FR24. The N124DA reg didn't come up on FR24 search and C6-ATI (or C6ATI as it was showing on approach to LHR) weren't recognised. It was squawking 7700.

It came in from Marseilles apparently. Flightaware still has it as C6-ATI so it must be a very recent re-reg.

Caught up with it yesterday on the ramp, apparently the C6 reg can clearly be seen tapped over under the wing

Nice picture Jeff. I needed 600mm and a heavy crop to get mine It seems that it did not depart yesterday and is now planned for today. Anyone know where it is heading to?

In the 1970s & 1980s, general aviation below biz / prop jet size weren't all that uncommon at Heathrow. I can remember seeing Cessna single engined types there along with twins such as Piper Aztec & Beech Baron.

It was still here earlier, the police seem to have keen interest in it and always seem to be loitering around it but not guarding it if you know what I mean.

Going back to the 90's and perhaps early 2000's there was an organised fly in on I think it was Xmas day by about a dozen assorted PA28's and cessnas etc from Denham if my memory serves me correctly - Recall some interesting ATC filtering them around the scheduled traffic - If I remember correctly they needed to maintain at least 100 knots till over the threshold !

Don't know how much it'd cost to land one of these at LHR but that, plus whatever it's costing to leave it parked there for four days, means the costs must be mounting up.

Some years ago I was given an out of date Pooleys flight guide. The edition was from summer 1996. Out of curiosity I thought I would look & see how much it would cost to land at LHR. No clue beyond 'BAA Plc airport rates'. It also said that 'Light single & twin engined aircraft will not be permitted to use the airport.' I guess that there are exceptions.

Those old memories !!! BAA used to produce a free pocket book of the time tables for their airports , one for Stansted had some interesting information mainly because at that time there were only about half a dozen flights a week there . They had the landing and parking charges for various aircraft . It worked out cheaper to park a 747 at Stansted for a day than to park a car at Heathrow ! That was pre the rebuilding of the airport . My visits were usually on the way home from Mildenhall and other places , the small 'TV' screen in the passenger terminal would have a longer list of local bus times than aircraft arrivals ! It was some years before I actually saw any aircraft land or take off at Stansted ! Chrisj

One thing that I have just remembered from my 1970s LHR visits is the Air Anglia scheduled service using PA31 Navajo aircraft. And, of course the LHR - LGW helicopter shuttle using S61, mostly it was G-LINK.

I think the helicopter shuttle was run jointly by B Cal. and another airline . It was only permitted to operate until the M25 was built . Recently I came across a photo of G-LINK whilst sorting some photos . Now that the M25 is built I bet some passengers would rather use the helicopter than sit in a road jam for hours !! Chrisj

Wasn't it Bcal and BA that operate the LINK heli?

Think it was operated jointly by British Caledonian Airways and British Airways Helicopters, with it owned by the British Airports Authority.
I and my travel Agent mate travelled on it when flying from Glasgow to the Gambia in NOV 1983,BEFORE GOOGLE MAPS looking down a people with swimming pools in their gardens!!!
