Having checked that the date is not 1 April, I suppose it must be true that this new airline has indeed biught the first of up to 4 A380s. Any clues as to previous operator(s)?

I've always said the A380 was ahead of its time, the pandemic didn't help it..... Now we are seeing a shortage of pilots worldwide the 380s are starting to look like a good option

A bit more research found this..
""According to ch-aviation.com data, Doric currently is remarketing two Airbus A380s: one, registered as 9H-MIP, formerly operated by Singapore Airlines and then Hi Fly Malta, and A6-EDH, a former Emirates aircraft.""

Their blurb speaks of 471 seats in 3 classes. Proposed routes appear to be trans-Atlantic (but from where to where is not stated but trying to regularly fill an A380 from a regional UK airport would be challenging to say the least), already a highly competitive market even before Norse and Jet Blue entered it. Good luck although as Alfred says, "BUT".

He's talking about starting up in "summer 2024" but no one even knows where he's flying to yet. He's spending colossal amounts of money without a penny in return at present, has he even secured any slots given that there are so few airports in the UK that can physically accommodate an A380?

This from their website
Global Airlines will have approximately 471 seats aboard our 4 x A380s, with more coming in 2024. So, does he mean more seats or more aircraft?
So, he's far from maximising seat configurations which I believe can be as many as 800-ish?
Something came up on my news feed earlier today Dave regarding the two aircraft he has supposedly acquired so far, and what their previous IDs were.

There are a lot of slots avail at LGW, most of which are leased to other airlines by their owners. If I was to guess a destination I'd say EWR. Will be interesting to follow.

What about gates that can accommodate a 380 at LGW?

What about gates that can accommodate a 380 at LGW? I believe there's only one gate that can accom an A380, plenty of remote parking though, which is cheaper, I assume they are aiming for cheap!!

THAT will be a very long loading !!! .... and then were are the stands at KEWR.
Probably won't be a problem .... as more likely to find Shergar first !!!!

Im assuming they could use remotes in Newark as well. Thing is, there are lots of people that go to many lengths to save a few quid, Ryan air exploits this very well flying to airports no where near the published destination. Knocking a couple of hundred quid off the flights to the US will be very appealing to these people

More Global News
"Global Airlines will launch scheduled services in summer 2024, with daily New York flights and four-times weekly Los Angeles frequencies. However, operations will not be limited to transatlantic services. Stephenson said Global Airlines is planning to have a “touch point” on every continent."
American Express has also jumped on board the venture, not sure in what capacity yet though.

On its way to Prestwick
|
|
|
Post by michael on May 3, 2024 21:25:58 GMT
It has arrived at Prestwick for storage ,hardly an achievment from a nice dry desert airfield to very changeable West coast of Scotland.
It will probably be like all the other "new" British airlines by entrepaneurs .... it has missed a summer start already ,has NO routes ,NO airports, obviously is not MNPS approved filed at FL270 BEFORE the gear was jammed or painted. It does amaze me that American Express has associated itself with the airline , but then again the CO-OP MIGHT want to think again who it puts its name to .....doooh too soon

I heard it was an issue with the undercarriage that couldn't be fixed in the US that was the reason from the flight to the UK. Can't think what that problem may be though, Unless it's final destination after storage is TLS.
It's Def a strange one this airline, seems to be attracting huge financial support and are getting a lot of long time aviation related people on board, even my manager has decided to leave after 30 years with the airline in various management roles and join the ranks of Global.

The USA does not have any Ground Jacks for the A380's weight for the obvious reason ,that they never ordered any. Until that check is done (a grounded/stored A380 NEEDS to have the gear recycled up/down within a 90 day period and if not it is not allowed to retractthem on its next flight)
