Morning Dave
I started using this on my laptop and phone when it seemed that ADSB Exchange might bite the dust. I find it equally as good and have never had any issues with it. It does seem to lack some coverage, we're off to Crete next week so I've been taking a look to see what's about down there and there are noticeable omissions in what's tracking compared to ADSB Exchange and FR24.

hi, thanks Graham, when i was on jollies down Cornwall a few helicopter's i saw were not on it, and i'm seeing aircraft on it and go look for them but they are not there, and i go out early... if there's 3-4 contributors they should be more or less right. I will have to get my old sbs out and see if that's still working that was spot on as far as i remember. regards, dave...

I use ADS-B Exchange as my main AR when at home and have not changed it for some years now . Here across the river from Chivenor we get a number of helicopters both civil and military and none show on the AR . Many civil ones go to Abbotsham near Bideford for fuel and the military do training at and about Chivenor as well as going for fuel . Again none show on AR . BUT some show as they come towards the area and again when about twenty or so miles away . This suggests to me that possibly who ever feeds into the AR does not live locally or has some obstruction in the way for low traffic . My old Kinettic system also did not show these local traffic . I find also that ADS-B shows biz jets with registrations , Plane Finder may show just a plot but no details and FR24 plot and registration . This is not 100% I add . When using the laptop for other things I use the phone which has Plane Finder , ADS-B and FR24 on it and by going from one to the others I can find most but not those local helicopters and light aircraft . I keep thinking of getting the Kinettic up and running again but would require to convert hex codes to registration/serials and the ARs are so much more convenient . Chrisj

hi, thanks chrisj, i brought my sbs out of long term storage, but i can't find my sbs cd at the moment, so when i do find it, i will need to start to load a/c details, but it will show how accurate the positions are, compared to adsb and plane finder...
regards, dave...

I believe you can download what you need from the kinetic site to get your sbs up and running, you don't need the cd to do it

Dave , Jeff , Way back I had a problem with my SBS and it went back for a fix- only they lost it ! I then had to pay a much reduced amount to have another but the disk that was sent with it was blank ! I asked for one that worked and never had a reply ! Anyway a friend sent me a copy of his and all was well . Up dated operating programs were available on line but I think that since Kinetic disappeared back up moved to a place at Milton Keynes and I have an idea that they no longer support Kinetic SBS , but may be wrong . The Gatwick Aviation Society used to provide the program for replacing hex code with registrations but they have also gone . There is a way of updating the file but I for one do not have the skill required and would probably mess it up . I think Plane Base can do the required but again I am not sure . As a by the way .... last evening I had a Cessna come over from Dunkeswell to Lundy . It plotted as G-HFCL . Shortly after , I saw a Cessna come over from Lundy direction . I took a photo of it ( got to try the new camera ) and it shows clearly G-EGTU but plotted as G-HFCL ! Someone has not changed the transponder code ! Just a reminder to watch out for these things . Chris

Just to confirm, planebase with their SBS3? program runs alongside their database and updates the SQB file, it also allows the sbs screen to only show what you need or everything that's plotting

Hi Chris
According to PlaneBase, G-HFCL became G-ETSU on 8/5/19, still based at Dunkeswell.

Thanks Graham , If it had not flown overhead and I had not taken a photo , I would of logged the wrong registration ! Just thought , for many things to do with the Kinetic SBS , there was a person known as Bones who produced a lot of information and programs for items like operator logos and much more . He also had a section in a radio magazine . I think he was Scotland based . chris
