hi, well i think we all knew this was coming, and if it's anything like the F.4 Phantom line up, it will be a slog, but not as much as the KC-135 line up...
The Royal International Air Tattoo will take place on the 19th, 20th and 21st July 2024 and we're announcing new aircraft themes to fire you up for the next aviation extravaganza.
RIAT24 marks the 50th Anniversary of the F-16 Fighting Falcon's first flight and RIAT will host a global celebration of this impressive combat jet. Join us to see a fantastic static line-up of Fighting Falcons from around the world as well as spectacular F-16 flying displays.
In addition, our operational theme will be Pushing the Boundaries in Air and Space, where we will be highlighting the important work of flight test and evaluation in modern aviation, with aircraft and organisations from around the world, showcasing their latest technological developments.
on the count down... regards, dave...

I'm sure it was 1976 when I first set eyes on the F16 at Alconbury - it did a full display and I was awestruck - I think it was on its way to the Paris airshow.
If memory serves me correctly - I also saw the best battle break ever by the Red Arrows over Alconbury - back in the day when they were flying Gnats - they were so low - all 10 - how they managed to avoid all the various masts is beyond me!!

Just realised it can't have been 76 as that would have been a Farnborough year - maybe 77?

hi, a little thread drift, but in mentioning Alconbury and the 1970's, that brought to mind a few visits then and in the 80's, one i remember was seeing via a crack/opening in the side access door of a hangar, a ? with a armed guards, too which i mingled back into the crowd. I think it was a TR-2/U-2 but can't see it noted in my book, and nothing noted on any sites...

Hi,
the show at Alconbury was on 28/6/1975, I was there myself, yeah what memories. Air shows had great variety back then !
The aircraft was 701567.

The F-16 at Alconbury was 72-1567. Easy to confuse as it had 01567 painted on the tail !

Yeah, 72-1567 is correct. Having moved home a few months back my old log books are in crates in the loft so I (foolishly) looked at the scramble show report where it is listed as 701567.
The scramble report for the '75 Paris air show does say. 72-, I seem to recall back in those days serial presentation on US military a/c were sometimes oddly presented. Given the dates it was on its way home from Paris.
To be honest apart from the F-16 I cannot recall anything else about this air show, but I was only 16 ! Seem to recall we went on a coach trip organised by 'Thunderbird Aviation Tours ' (or Similar) who were based in Ham/Kingston-Upon Thames. It was probably one of the first military air shows I went to.
Regards, Paul.

Thanks Ray and Paul, I wasn't nit picking, I too was at the Alconbury show in 75 and had no note of an F-16.

Was doing a 3 week airfield drive around Europe at the time of the 1975 Alconbury show. Did however graph 72-1567 at the show at Florennes on 21 June 75 wearing her Paris show number 53. Graphed her again where she now resides in the Virginia Air & Space Museum at Hampton, Va. 75-bx by dave tompkins, on Flickr 01-eo by dave tompkins, on Flickr Graphed sister ship 72-1568 at the Mildenhall show in May 1977, after retirement she was used for ground tests on a pole at Rome, New York and now lives in the museum at Fort Worth, Texas. 77-cx by dave tompkins, on Flickr
