Here's one that pressed my nostalgia button. I'll admit to not being a big Jackson 5 fan but always liked their track 'Skywriter', but then I've always been an aircraft enthusiast. This evening I happened to come across this video to 'Skywriter', didn't it stir some memories?!! Not military, I don't have a military background, but well remember cursing when the Red Devils used to go up for practise sessions near where I live as nothing else would be allowed to fly near. Ironically, the same happens now and the Red Devils can not be held responsible! I also remember when the army had Bell 47 Sioux helicopters (featured in the video) and seeing them do an aerial 'ballet' routine like they do here at a 1970s army display and being impressed with what I saw!

I am not a Military spotter but I do remember a trip to Middle Wallop on the 26th July 1975. I specifically went to catch the civil registered Bell 47's operated by Bristows in the G-AXK* range, I made eleven during my visit which for me were big gap fillers in my G- register, sweet memories.

I saw a few of the Bristow ones giving rides at a Middle Wallop show and immediately noticed what a different sound those ones made compared to the military ones. The civvie ones had a very droning sound to them and the military examples had a much more high pitched 'tinny' note.

According to Planebase (don't shoot the messenger...), G-AXKO is still active in Ireland at the ripe old age of 54. G-AXKX appears to still be active in Canada too.

According to GINFO, G-MASH was one of that batch as G-AXKU. I've only seen the frame as G-MASH. Another of the batch, G-AXKS was last seen some years ago in the Museum of army flying, exhibited opposite a military Sioux. Seen at that Middle Wallop show all those years ago: G-AXKK, AXKL, AXKR, AXKW, AXKZ. Probably on joyride duties.
