We are out for three weeks. I would appreciate any help with spotting info on the various fields especially do.s an donts after the recent arrests out there. Thanx dave Hi Dave, Welcome on board mate - blimey, your trip sounds like a monster opportunity to see loads of planes... Is it a guided tour or are you doing everything yourself? I was in Hong Kong a couple of years ago and they have a good viewing area on top of the terminal building, called the SkyDeck. When I was there is was HK$15 per day - but they didn't used to let you in and out but if you sweet-talk the folks on the counter they may have changed. No toilets up stairs and nowhere to get food/drink - so grab some before you go up... You'll need a good set of bins or telescope and a zoom lens for the camera. Otherwise, it's brilliant mate and you'll see loads. If you can, try to stay at one of the airport hotel's with a view of the airport. If you are downtown the same day return ticket was HK$90 per day. I've been to Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Dubai - wasn't able to do a lot of spotting at any of them but from the terminal buildings (air-side) you should be okay but just be discrete. Always remember that people with cameras, binoculars and telescopes always attract attention from fellow passengers and security services. So just be careful. I'm sure some of the other members on AFA will offer advice and directions but in any event, welcome - Graham is the boss, Jeff is second in command and I'm the dog's body... So good luck mate. Please post any sightings or things of interest for fellow members - please pay no attention to the recent thread on Lasham. We've had an issue and a couple of 'guests' have stirred up some negativity on the forum... It's just a blip - we are a good friendly bunch and we have quite a few members from your neck of the woods - so our message is simply; enjoy the forum. Cheers Dave. Bill

Hi Dave, One little tip from me..... when writing numbers down especially in an airport environment is not to use a note book and pen....this for some reason seems to arouse suspicion from everyone, instead I use the note book facility on my mobile phone...this doesnt cause any suspicion at all as 99% of people in a terminal are on their phones !!
welcome to the forum by the way :-)

If you're spending any time in Dubai, the Sheraton Deira is highly recommended. I visited friends last year and had a couple of days on the roof terrace. Great views and photo opportunities, just keep back from the edge when using bins/camera. A small fee paid downstairs and off you go, you can also buy Internet for FR24. Good luck, ask if you need to know more

Thanks for the welcome Graham. I grew up at the end of Manchesters runway. Shropshire based now. I visit many airfields with my wife and are warmly welcomed at most airfields in England, Scotland and Wales. In the last two years we have also been to British Columbia airfields ( very welcoming ) airfields near Seattle, Boeing at Everett and Warsaw in Poland.

Hi Telford,
Welcome on board mate. Just wanted to say that if you see some rather weird looking posts with some unsavory comments please don't take this as the norm. We've just had a horrid couple of days when two individuals (guests, not members) got onto AFA and started to make some really unnecessary comment about us. This really is not the norm as we operate a really friendly and very open forum. We don't mind what you post providing it's not malicious and it's in good taste.
Now, if you've been spotting for a period of time and happen to have any photo's of your trips (home and abroad) please feel free to load them onto AFA. Lots of members do just that and if you go through some of the topics you'll find hundreds of shots from all over the UK, Europe and the World for that matter.
We like to address each other on first name terms but if you wish to be known as Telford that's fine. You'll see lots of people loading stuff from all over the Country and we have several members based in and around the Manchester area - so anything you see in the area please load it - you'll be surprised how many people read it.
All the best and if you need anything don't hesitate to contact Graham, Jeff or myself.
Bill

Thanks Bill. I have been viewing as a guest since AFA started. So I am aware what has been going on with the various messages posted. Hopefully today is the end of the Lasham saga. Will post when I can.
