Ladies & gents, most of the regular posters here will have seen the influx of inflammatory posts deposited on the Lasham forum this past 24 hours. Both individuals concerned felt it necessary to sit there in anonymity whilst posting accusative remarks aimed at specific individuals for which we had no way of identifying them or banning them, as under the present system, they could simply enter the forum again under a new name and again, without having to register, leave their offensive comments. Jeff and Bill kindly sent out an email to every registered member asking for your opinions as to the way forward and we thank all who took the time to respond with their views and ideas.
We started off as, and always will be “Aviation for All” – we actively encourage members and guests to post pretty much what they want as long as it contains no unsavoury material, personal attacks or anything that would serve to upset fellow members and it’s great to see that with the exception of the last 24 hours, that has been totally adhered to.
Taking all the views expressed from the members who emailed or PM-ed Jeff back regarding the “what we should do?” issue created by these two individuals, we have decided that as from this evening, guests will be able to read what they like, but will not be able to post without first registering. This brings us in line with just about every other forum or web group out there. Registering takes a couple of minutes, after which you can post as freely as anyone else on here. We want this group to grow and the only way to do that is to keep tweaking it to make it more attractive to current and potential users but we do need to keep the trolls, spammers and general trouble makers out.
We regularly attract anything between 350-500 guests per day; most I’m sure like to read the latest posts and maybe take a bit of info away with them which is 100% fine by Jeff, Bill and me and a few take the time to post. All that we are asking is that if you would like to add your opinion, or anything else to the healthy mix we have here, then please just sign up. Every member here is treated with courtesy and respect which was another principal aim of this forum when we started.
Folks, please, accept this decision in the manner in which it is proposed, that of keeping the forum here free of individuals who delight in upsetting as many people as possible. It makes us secure and is the best way forward. It also means that any offenders in future can be traced and their accounts permanently disabled.
Many thanks indeed from Graham, Jeff & Bill
