No matter how many times I visit here, I always go home with a load of cops, no different this time despite my last visit being only eight weeks ago. Loads of flying activity on such a lovely day.
One query - as you look way across to where the Meteors and the Vulcan nose are stored, there's the front fuselage of what Looks like a BA Airbus of some description. First time I've ever noticed it, does anyone have a reg please?

You are a veritable encyclopedia of info Chris....;0) Seeing as it is indeed her plane, you'd half expect the reg to be jumbled up into a weird anagram.

Graham....not sure that EGBJ has managed to get a Gulf 200 yet. Your ZZOO might be ZZDD...Schweizer which I think is based. Pity you went Friday...I was there Thursday and Saturday taking G-HANS apart!

Hi Smudger Yes Staverton is very friendly, no bother with pics and that, I think you can go airside if you book in advance (?). There's loads based there, will make loads if you haven't been before. I certainly did!

Nice pics by the way.. Cheers, Smudger Hi Smudger If you give the main reception at the airport a buzz, ask them if they still do the hangar walk around. There used to be a chap that would schedule to come in and take you air-side (I've got his name but can't find it)... Basically they ask for a donation to the airports chosen charity and providing he's available - away you go... They can't always guarantee to get inside every hangar but he always does his very best to accommodate you... Great guy. If I find the name I'll PM you. There is a chap who does the same at Kemble although his visits are mainly to the big hangar where the DC-3 was restored... We normally donate £5 per head... Cheers. Bill P.S. I guarantee that if you've not been before, and you get inside most of the hangars, you'll pot minimum of 50 and probably in excess of 75...

Dave Haines or Keith Wilson will do the Staverton walking tours, if they are available. Check out the View from the Cafe site...the inofficial Staverton site. You will find pics of most of the residents..if not all.

Yes, ZZDD, where I got the Gulf 200 from is anyone's idea...;0) Must have been that third bottle of wine whilst I was sorting thre log out.
Smudge, firstly I usually pull into the gravel car park of the Snack Shack or whatever it's called, on the right along Bamfurlong Lane ( the left turn at the lights which leads to the airport). There's a decent sized hangar adjacent to the car park and there's often several light aircraft outside. From there you also get a decent elevated view across the field ( as in the shot with the DA42, M-KING and N820DL as above) although you will need a min 300mm lens to catch anything really. This also gives an edge on view along where the Ciruuses are often parked.
Then leave the Shack car park, turn right and take next right into the airport, there's parking there in front of the cafe for 20 or so cars and you get a decent view of all on the apron there plus good shots of anything landing. Then head along the road there, carry straight on instead of turning left by the cafe, this leads round to the trading estate, there are lots of gaps in the fencing where you can see what's there and there's a spot to pull in if you're quick where you usually find 3-4 Cirruses parked.
Follow the road around in a big "U", find somewhere to park, anywhere that doesn't say, "reserved for *****" and take to Shank's Pony, lots of good clear views of the field. You can walk up to the front of the Tiger Airways hangar where some of their stuff is often parked and if you ask, they usually let you in anyway. The huge glass and steel new hangar often has a biz jet or two tucked away, reading the reggies depends on how they're parked but you can usually find an angle to read them off.
I love Staverton, I always make plenty even though I visit 8-10 times a year. Same at Kemble, just follow signs for the AV8 cafe, park there and walk to the various parking areas, then by car, follow the old taxiway round past the preserved Britannia to where the RJ's and 747's are currently parked. The best views of the scrapping area are from the main Malmesbury - Cirencester road layby and a pair of steps is advised to see over the perimeter fence.
