Heather Cho, the since resigned chief executive of Korean Air and daughter of its owner, is facing up to ten years imprisonment for " diverting an airliner without due cause". Miss Cho was a passenger on the flight from New York to Incheon last December. As the plane was taxiing towards its departure, Miss Cho objected strongly to being served nuts in a packet rather than a bowl, after which she then verbally and physically abused the flight purser in charge of the cabin crew and ordered the pilots to return to the terminal so that the "offending" purser could be removed from the flight. The purser has been giving evidence at the ongoing trial and if convicted, Miss Cho faces ten years in jail.
