Please can anyone tell me why the Hurn Link(listed as Bournemouth)has a red globe symbol under the main threads listings? I understand this indicates "no recent posts",yet Hurn is regularly reported.
Conversely, the numerous green icons, indicating recent posts, often appear against subjects where there has only been a single entry days ago........

Hi Peter
The globes will only change when YOU read a post, so if you read a green "new" post, when you return to that sub forum it will have changed to "red". If YOU make a new post on a thread, or start a new thread the globe will still be red because you will have read the post as you were composing it. So, it only as such changes for you, irrespective of what else any other forums users have read or posted. Does that make sense?

Thanks Graham,
Can see that now, though I'm not entirely sure of the point of it!
No worries though : I usually access the forum from the recent threads link, where all the recent messages are plain for all to see, though some thought occasionally has to be given to working out what the message refers to,as the header contains a date only.............
Keep up the good work,
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi again Peter
It's really just the same as having the folder icons there instead of the globes, the folders would say " new post" if there's anything posted there since you last looked. The globes do exactly the same job really. Every other Proboard forum I've ever used seems to use the folders so we thought we'd just be a little bit different.

Peter if you go to the bottom of main page where you find the recent posts link there is a link saying 'mark all threads read' if pushed this will turn all globes red ! They will only then turn green again as and when a post YOU havnt read is posted. Like graham says the folder with new post in it is the default icon....... Most never noticed them !!! Lol

Thanks both,
Must admit I've never taken much notice of the folder symbols. I guess those globes just catch the eye more.............
