Just seen my first paraffin parrot for 3 days as the fog finally lifts over Hamburg. D-AVXH (N704FR) Went in the book last week, but I do like their tails and after 3 days where you were lucky to see your hands when outside it was exciting. First cop just gone in the book, VQ-BSJ trailing OTT. D-AZAH is transmitting from XFW so will see if we can bag that one if/when she gets airborne.

Another blank day so far, looked out for N734AR on the AA105 LHR-JFK but it was above the cloud when it would have come into view, and saw the rare Asiana 777 HL8254 on its previous visit in 2013. Just one chance left, TC-JTD latest Turkish A321 is currently inbound, and should go overhead on departure around 22.00.
EDIT Yes, TC-JTD still below the cloud as it went overhead at 22.37.

Same here Bob,since the middle of October I've made just 7 and just the one for November at the moment, thank God I'm off to Florida on Friday 20th November for 17 days. All my logs and books are bang upto date as are my household chores.Just have a bit to do in the garden but it's too boggy at the moment and yes it's chucking it down again.Have a birthday a week before Christmas so with new year that should be 2 weeks of merry making (if only).
Hope you pot something soon.

Just got in from walking ( floating...?) the dogs for an hour and a half during which time it did nowt but piss with rain. The back garden's like a swamp, all I can say is thank goodness Devizes International sits on the 500ft contourline. If we get flooded, there's no hope for pretty much anywhere else.

Don't think I've made anything in November, been at the Southampton house since the 2nd so haven't logged anything (Books are in the Gosport house). Not that it'd make any difference anyway, it's been rainy all week!

Hi Dylan mate,
Never mind mate, just think in four months time we'll be blowing off the winter cobwebs and getting out and about again...
You could always take a winter break like Deano (itfc) to Los Angeles... He flew out on Thursday for a long weekend spotting trip... He asked me to go but I'm up to my armpits at the moment but he's staying at LAX and will be visiting Van Nuys, John Wayne, Long Beach, Torrance and a few other local fields... I'll post a log as soon as I get one...
I try to catch up with spotting admin over the winter - mainly in putting stuff into ADU.... But spending so much time on the keyboard does get monotonous....
Keep smiling mate.

Yes, cleared around 15.30, in time for me to make Oman AF A320 554 inbound BOH (went overhead at FL110) and (at last) N734AR 777 outbound LHR27 on the AA107 to JFK.

Took advantage of the clear skies this evening to make several more (strobes only of course), HS-TKV 777 on LHR27 departure and biz N810U F.2000EX heading ESE at FL410, I-PFLY and M-YFTA GLEX inbound LTN or STN, and 9H-FAM EMB.500 heading SSE at FL310. Best day for a long time! But missed 5Y-BZH 787 of Kenya (thought this was stored in the desert somewhere) and HA-LYS Wizz inbound Bristol from Katowize.

Thought it was going to be another blank day.....but managed to see the strobes of HS-TGZ 777 of Thai on LHR27 departure just before she disappeared into the cloud. Have 8 Thai 777s now (but all strobes), hope to clear the fleet before the end of the winter timetable!

Haven't posted since 20th Oct mainly because the weather has left me with only 7 made since despite the fact that I pass LHR every day for work. 21/10 LHR B5903 A330 25/10 At home TC-LJB 777 27/10 LHR LN-LNB 787 o/f HL8006 777 TC-JSR A321 29/10 LHR LN-RGK 737 3/11 LHR A7-APE A380 A bit of overlap but I couldn't be bothered to go back to October. Not a lot to shout about really. Could do with some half decent weather!

Can you really count something as seen if you only see the strobes? Just curious as I don't do reggies.

I have mentioned this before, but I have 4 categories of sightings on my spreadsheets. white where I have actually read off the registration, green where I have seen it clearly but could not read it off, yellow where it is just a dot at the end of a trail and blue where I have only seen the strobes. Obviously I want to upgrade from blue/yellow to green, and from green to white, but for me the system works as I know where I stand on each frame.
I guess most most of you who use SBS at foreign airports would have lots in my green category, and many of the regular contributors who log OTT would have yellow sightings. Whether you choose to count strobes is up to you, at least I know they are not "proper" sightings and my spreadsheets reflect that.

I know a lot of you don't count strobes, but I do (as a separate category on my spreadsheets) and a couple more have hit the file this evening, B-8231 A330 of China Southern and HS-TKU 777 of Thai.

Hi Jerry, As I said the other day there is no right way or wrong was to do this hobby of ours, its what ever suits the individual, some dont take dots in the sky, some will chase an aircraft they have already seen because the reg has changed due new ownership, some wont take an aircraft as seen unless they see the full reg, some dont do military, some dont do civil, some gliders, some balloons, some strobes etc.....this hobby is fantastic partly I believe because there are no rules :-)
PS: Since Ive got myself a computerised database where you can show an aircraft as seen with the click of a button ive started logging aircraft seen in films, obviously my notes show TV in the where seen column and the title/year of the film
