Roger here from Worthing, Sussex. Just joined this groupe. Been spotting since 1986. Regards, Roger Morning Roger, Welcome on board mate. We've got quite a few members in and around your area so keep an eye on the daily postings to catch up on what's being seen/reported around the area. We all love aviation and have members from all over the place reporting from home and overseas, so if you hear or see anything of interest please don't hesitate to post it. We all love a photo as well, so again, if you have anything just stick it on. Most members post via Flickr or photobucket, if you are unfamiliar with either of these just let either me, Graham or Jeff know and we'll send you some details. So glad you joined Roger and hope you enjoy AFA. Bill

Bill I do not use Flickr or Photobucket. I have tried to post a photo but the system says it is more than 1MB so therefore I failed to send. Do we have to use Flickr / Photobucket or is there a way to send send photos from my laptop files. Les

Hi Les,
To be honest I don't think the system can take a photo from your laptop. I've sent a message to Graham and Jeff who I'm sure will respond ASAP. I know photobucket/Flickr can be a pain but they are, I believe, the most reliable way of posting on forum's. I think it's to do with proboards having access to capture an image at any time whereas it cannot have the same route to individual laptops or other mobile devices. I think some people have tried it in the past with an end result of the post being there but with no photo...
i think either of the storage sites resize the photo for posting purposes which also saves a great deal of hassle.
One of of the guys will get back to you shortly Les.
Cheers.
Bill

Hi Les and good to have you aboard with us. Proboards is the best template for us as far as running an aviation forum is concerned. They provide everything we need to set it up and run it, have excellent support should things go wrong and it doesn't cost us a penny. But, they have to make an income somewhere, so, they impose a very small upload limit for us regarding photographs and if we wish to increase that limit, it costs rather a lot of money. So essentially, anything that is hosted elsewhere like Flickr or Photobucket is without limit or cost if we post the photos here, but if we use the Proboards photo upload facility, we would hit our limit most likely within a few days and then the only option is to delete photos that have already been posted, which, given the time and trouble members take to do this is a no no, or purchase additional space which as said, is very expensive.
I can't speak for Photobucket as I have never used it, but Flickr is free and gives you the facility to upload 100mB per month free. A PRO account which many of us have is about twenty quid a year and gives you totally unlimited uploads and storage.
Most photo editing programmes, even the basic Windows one on our PCs allows you to resize photos for web pages at the click of a button, my Canon takes shots at a file size of around 5-9mB but this can be reduced right down to just a couple of hundred kB in a few seconds and then "saved as" if you don't want to lose the original file size.
Forgive me Les if I'm talking about stuff you already know but it is neither practical nor affordable for the forum to offer uploads from anywhere other than outside storage sites. Jeff has posted his video above but if you need any help, there are plenty here who would be only too happy to offer a bit of assistance. Thanks
