Wasn't sure where to put this, but I guess it's a delivery of sorts! The last DC-9-14 flights will take place this month, Nairobi-Aswan-Venice-Helsinki. Seats are available on the world's oldest operating commercial jet for the final journey. If you've got a spare 2500 euros you can do the whole trip, or it's "only" 1450 euros for the final leg! The aircraft is to be preserved at Helsinki. classicjettours.com/dc9.html

It operated for them as OH-LYD. Presumably it will return to those marks for preservation at Helsinki.

I remember we had a few OH DC-9s floating about and some US registered ones all in full BM livery....I believe the reason was because the type wasnt certified for the UK register at that time...or something along those lines

The best I can do is my first flight out of LHR back in 1978 on G-AZNB to Birmingham and the return flight a few days later, also on NB. No more BMI til June 2001 when I flew LHR-CDG on B737 G-BVZH and returned about a week later on G-ODSK. May 2003 LHR-MAN on A321 G-MIDF & return a few days later on A320 G-MIDS. Then October 2006 A319s G-DBCI & DBCA & finally May 2008 on A320 G-MIDT & return on G-DBCJ all LHR-MAN-LHR. Thinks - I wonder what the reaction will be the next time a medic talks about BMI, and I should mention that I flew with them a few times!!

Always baffled me why BM didnt change their name to something less regional, especially as their main operating base was down South at LHR and not Derby in their later days. A half hearted attempt was made when they changed to BMI although the "I" never officially meant anything within the airline but was assumed by most outside to stand for "International" !
