With a couple of hours between meetings in Brussels last week I re-visited the superb museum in the Parc du Cinquantenaire close to the European Commission HQ & couple of minutes walk from the metro station at Merode.
Although many of the 80 odd aircraft exhibits are military there are a significant number of civil aircraft including several G- registered examples. These include the Percival Gull G-ACGR shown below as restored to its 1933 Kings Cup air race colours and, by way of comparison, how it was when I first graphed her lying in a dark corner in 1975. 'CGR made a forced landing in a Belgian river in 1934 and its remains were discovered in a barn in the early 1970s. Also by way of comparison my shots from the same spot last week and in 1975. The Stampe hung from the ceiling of the departure hall at Brussels Airport from 1995 to 2008 when it moved to the museum.
If you get bored then the airport always has something to offer, particularly with visitors for NATO and EC meetings and with All Nippon now daily with 787s.
