Its about halfway between Middle Wallop and Southampton, even with a satnav it was difficult to find, but very friendly.

Quite a collection there, for the uninitiated such as I, whereabouts is the strip please carmedic? It's a bit tricky if you aren't a local, Graham. It is NorthWest of Hursley, West of Winchester, and you have to go through a farm to get to it. Best way is to fly in! Google Farley Farm Airstrip, and it will give the co-ordinates. If you wait till it's warmer, I could meet you in Hursley and act as a guide! Bob

Thanks Bob, sounds like a great plan, and I'll take you up on that if I may. I regularly work around Winchester/Eastleigh/ Southampton so it's easy for me to be around that area, thanks.

Are there many living residents? More dead than alive, I fancy, but there is (or was!) a maintenance organisation there, so it varies. I haven't been there for ages, but I hear a gyrocopter flying out quite often.

Quite a few former Popham regulars there, not least AA5s G-BJDO & JNAS. I remember photographing the latter when it visited Popham while still displaying it's previous Swedish registration some time in the 1990s. Auster G-AOHZ & the other AA5 G-BYDX were also pretty regular Popham visitors. It's sad to see them languishing in the vegetation unloved, and, in the case of the first two mentioned, looking as though they are not likely to take to the air again.

I hope this helps- I did take photo's on my visit but did not post same- as I had seen a report re the owners not wanting photo's being taken- etc may have been LAAS Ports of Call- similar to request for same at Little Gransden. Update LAAS Ports of Call April 2013:- Visited on March 1st and it’s surprising how little this difficult to find place changes – please remember photography here is not encouraged. Hi Bob With regards to photographs, I asked the question when I visited, as I had seen what was on the planespotters web site and was told I could photograph anything I wanted and they were not worried about them being posted on the internet. They also asked me to pop back into the caravan when I had finnished looking around cos the kettle was on One of the guy's was involved with the restoration of the SE.5 at Old Warden. What they don't like is people just turning up and wandering around without asking permission first.

I was also asked not to publish anywhere what I had seen here a few months ago, hopefully this wont compromise any further visits for others here

Thanks for the explicit directions Bob, really useful. Isn't it somewhere around there where G-BLOS was sitting in a field?

Thanks for the explicit directions Bob, really useful. Isn't it somewhere around there where G-BLOS was sitting in a field? No, that was Pauncefoot, near Romsey. Bob's directions were good, but the easiest way in I would suggest is from the Winchester to Romsey road, just North of Hursley, but it is not easy from where-ever.

As it was 18 years since I last visited (by air, in N80533) I thought I should check this out before I made rash promises to be a guide!
I would not recommend visiting here if it was wet!!!
It is exactly 9 miles from my front door, but the last 2 miles are still a challenge, and there are bits where you dread an oncoming vehicle!
All of those in 'carmedics' post are still there, and unlikely to move soon! Most of 'BlueBobs' list there too, but I didn't see the Bird Dog, or the Sportcruiser, which was there but in a plastic hangar that I couldn't see in. There is a G-M gyrocopter, but that was locked securely in its container. Also there were G-RROD Pa30, G-JABS Jabiru, and G-GOTC GA7 Cougar on maintenance. N7EY PA30 is a White Waltham resident.

The latest Air-Britain reports the Bird Dog G-VDOG, lives at Chattis Hill House, Stockbridge. Known locally as 'Stockbridge International', I believe this is on the the extremely narrow lane that runs from Stockbridge to Kings Somborne, parallel to the main road that goes on to Romsey. I'll wait till it turns up at Popham!

Sorry for the late reply - and slightly off topic - but does anybody know, if you need to arrange to visit Durley (Local to Farley Farm) before going there?
