Does anyone have any Aviation related Spooky tales? I have one. Years ago en route to an air display at Upper Heyford,we were driving along a country road,we both glanced into a field on our right and saw a load of camouflaged aeroplanes or gliders. We both said,"Did you see that?" I turned the car around and went back for a second look but there was nothing to be seen. It was in Oxfordshire, possibly near one of the Wychwoods but I am not sure what route we had taken. I have no explanation at all,but we both saw it,and can still recall it now.

There is evidently a ghost swan that has been seen numerous times flying down the runway at LHR

I had a brother-in-law (Gaston) who sadly passed away about 8 years ago. He was about 20 years older than my sister and was French. He'd served in the Free French Navy during the war aboard the mine laying submarine; Rubis. About 18 years ago we (my wife and I) hosted Christmas Day lunch for our families plus two of our friends (Jo & Jim). About a week before Christmas the friends said that they may have to bail-out as Jo's dad (Fred) home help had let them down on the big day... Anyway we said bring Fred, who turned out to be a lovely old guy, along, which they did.
So the big day arrives, families all arrive and everyone's enjoying themselves and Jo, Jim and Fred were the last to turn up. Most of the family were spread out upstairs and the three of them came into the kitchen to grab a drink. On the wall I had a photo of Gaston's submarine in port in Dundee, where it was stationed during WW2. Anyway, Fred's enjoying a cold beer when he suddenly stops and says, why is that there - pointing to the photo. So I said that's my B-in-L's submarine... There was a silence... Then Fred says; is he hear? I said yeah he's upstairs... To which Fred says; I served in the Royal Navy during the war and was based in Dundee and my sub used to tie up along side that sub....
Well a very long story cut short, we re-united Gaston & Fred who proceeded to talk all through lunch, the afternoon and most of the evening... At one point Fred started to talk about a dog who used to come about his sub to scavenge for food... It turns out the dog (Baccus) belonged to Gaston and also served the entire war as the Rubis mascot... If you google; Gaston Sanz Baccus dog you will see a BBC article - Baccus was awarded a bravery award by the National Canine Defence League during the war. When Baccus died he was buried with his medal....
Well the whole family were completely spooked that day... And it still sends a tingle down my spine even now... Both Gaston and Fred have now departed this life and are shipmates once again. When Gaston passed away the French Navy gave him a full military funeral, he would have been very proud. His final wish was for half of his ashes to be taken down to the Rubis which lays at the bottom of the Mediterranean just off the French Coast near Toulon. These were delivered by divers from the French Navy nuclear submarine; Rubis....
This was one of the spookiest things I've ever experienced....

When I was a small boy, six or seven years of age my family lived for a short time at Hampstead Norris, near Newbury. Four or five of us would get on our bikes to go and play on land which was an airfield during the war. Going home one night just as it was getting dark we saw a figure approaching, off we pedalled as fast as we could and yet suddenly the figure was in front of us, and then he was gone.A trick of the light, our imaginations? I do not know, but four of us saw it and I can tell you now we were bloody scared.

Some years ago I was parked outside a local DIY superstore,it was early evening and getting dark. I could see some lights moving along near a large hill which is not too far away, they seemed to travel in one direction, then dissapear, only to re-appear some minutes later, this went on for quite some time,I even managed to get some Video of it. As we left the car park and drove towards home we got nearer to the hill and the lights were still visible,we turned into our road which faces directly towards the hill and I could see clearly the source of the lights. A tractor with his headlights on working in the fields!! Not really spooky, but it had me wondering what it was for a while

As a youngster of about 11, my family owned and lived in a transport café on the main A4 road between Calne and Yatesbury. The café was open round the clock and there was always a shift change at 10pm. A husband of one of the cooks had turned up to take her home, he worked in the tower at RAF Lyneham. It was a summer's evening and had only just got dark. He walked around the side of the café and as he walked in to the kitchen, he said to me, "come outside and take a look at this". We could plainly see about 6 or 7 very bright lights moving in formation very quickly across the horizon from south to north. They then shot up at 90 degrees to the horizon and after about 30 seconds disappeared. Goodness knows how high they were. Alastair, the cook's husband dialled the tower on the café landline and asked them what was going on. The tower told him that they had been tracking the objects for around 15 minutes but had no idea what they were. All they did know was that they had appeared in the south, had travelled north to within five miles of Lyneham, and then shot up into the sky so fast that they couldn't track them.
