Was looking through some ebay listings last night which ended up at CAM's, !! Anyway I found my first ever CAM dated 1974 (BA 747 cover) this was the year I became "aircraft aware" to coin a phase, even though I had lived directly under the final approach at Hatton Cross for the first ten years of my life 74 was when I discovered aircraft, so was just wondering, what was your first CAM and what age were you when you became "Aircraft Aware"

My first CAM was 1976 with the Air France Concord on the front cover, that's when I started marking in registrations, and under lining was done with any coloured biro to hand,(how very un-professional). Living and growing up directly under the approach for 28 right an early awareness of aircraft was grasped from the age of about 3,by identifying various aircraft just by sound of the engines,so i've been told. My spotting peaked in the early 80's before moving away to more quieter surroundings, but I have never lost the love of looking skyward upon the sound of an aero engine or a trail across a clear blue sky... As for my 1976 CAM, I still have it, albeit minus a half front cover and in a dishevelled state, but it will always remind me of my introduction into the world of spotting.

My first CAM was 1968 with the Jetstream on the cover, cost 3/6d and last Brit entry was G-AVYZ, a Laker BAC1-11. I've got them all except for 1950, 1951, 1952 and 1958, collected over the years from bookshops, ebay, amazon and the like. Would love to find the four I'm missing.

This was my very first one, bought for me by my mum in the early 1970s, so well out of date! I first started serious spotting in 1972, with that year's Civil Aircraft Markings, which had pictures of SF260 G-AYFK & a few Martinair aircraft headed by DC9 PH-MAN. My dear late mother had won the Woman's Realm 'Mum of the year' competition and got me my first pair of binoculars with which I started the hobby I still pursue! The Jetstream on the front of the 1968 edition was G-ATXH.

Apparently, the first 1950 edition was reprinted in 2000 to mark the fiftieth anniversary, you can pick those reprints up for a few quid on Ebay but an original is very rare and if one does come up for sale, I've seen them as expensive as £30.

Looks like that there wasn't a 1951 CAM edition published then.

I would pre-order 2015 C.A.M, but I remember it took 2 weeks longer than the release date for you last year Graham! I'll get it after school once it is out, seeing as my school is in the city - waterstones is in the same shopping mall as McDonalds - coincidence? Dylan

Very nice too. That's a good book site there Jeff, and the prices seem pretty good too. The 2014 CAM was 13.50, they want 11.95 for the 2015 edition

my first cam was 1964 and living under the flight path at bhx all my life i suppose i was aircraft aware when i was about 3 Which is strange, as i lived behind the green man pub in bedfont (well Known within the spotting community) those who know it will know the aircraft take the roof tiles off there!! Literaly !! Yet i have no recollection of aircraft till 74.... Wonder why the first 10 years of life doesnt include some memories of aircraft
