Last morning in Jo'burg before flying down to Cape Town for a few days:
Logged airside after checking in:
ZS-YBP Dash 8 South African Express
N545JN MD11F Western Global
A7-BCV B787-8 Qatar
F-HPJE A380 Air France
G-CIVH B747 British Airways
V5-ANM A319 Air Namibia
G-VDIA B787-9 Virgin Atlantic
Logged from plane whilst taxying:
P4-BFY Gulfstream 550
ZS-ZAB Let 410 Solenta
ZS-NRE Jetstream J41 Airlink
ZS-NRF Jetstream J41 Airlink
Flight to Cape Town was just under 2 hours and was with Safair with B737-400 ZS-JRI operating flight FA202,Safair are an LCC but their food/drink on board is much cheaper than Easyjet.
We landed at Cape Town just after midday and got our luggage within 5 mins of entering the arrivals hall.
Cape Town has two runways 01/19 and a much shorter 16/34 although I've never seen anything use this runway not even the GA,we landed on 01.Our hotel was just across the road from the airport with a fantastic view of the iconic Table Mountain,we checked in,dumped our bags and walked back to the airport. When we were last here there was one MSCP and no dedicated viewing area, now there are two MSCP's (one each end of the extended terminal building) and there is now a dedicated viewing area on the third level of the building between the Soaring Hawk Spur and Primi Cafe's,it even have seats, between the Primi Cafe and Ocean Basket restaurants there is a smaller viewing area but no seating is provided so you can guess where these two old farts went. Now Cape Town is fairly busy but once you have done a week in Jo'burg the majority of your pots will be Biz/GA/Helis.
First thing we did was to visit the tops of both MSCP's to see what was in cargo at one end and GA at the other end.
Logged from these vantage points were:
ZS-LZR Beech King Air C90A
ZS-OSL Robinson R44
ZS-JSP PA28 Cherokee 180
ZS-YDB DC8 Stars Away Aviation
ZS-HLX Bell UH-1H-BF Iroquois
V5-NDB Cessna Citation XL
ZS-SIF B737F Bid Air Cargo
TF-AAK B747 Iron Maiden (Ed Force One)
ZS-OZV DC8 African International (parked derelict on grass by threshold of runway 19).
Into the terminal building and a visit to the Soaring Hawk Spur restaurant for a lovely steak and salad and an ice cold beer, the following were logged from here and the viewing area until it got dark:
