Today as the weather forecast was great,we decided to go to the waterfront in Cape Town and re-visit some of the touristy bits that we saw some 10 years ago,but first a visit to the viewing area @ CPT to allow the rush hour traffic to die down, just the one logged:
ET-APO B737 Ethiopian
We then drove into Cape Town itself passing the cable car station for Table Mountain before driving to the top of Signal Hill where they still fire a noon day gun, also from here they were doing tandem para gliding. What a view from this location,to the south the ocean and Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned,to the east downtown Cape Town and the docks,to the north Table Mountain and to the west, another famous mountain The Lion's Head.We then drove down to the Waterfront and to the V & A Shopping Mall, flipping heck has this place been extended somewhat,my wife & daughter would love this place.Anyway first things first,we walked to the nearby Waterfront helipad where the following were noted doing pleasure flights:
ZS-HHZ Longranger
ZS-HKG Jetranger 3
ZS-RPH Longranger
ZU-ELP Bell UH-1D-BF Iroquois
ZS-ROP Eurocopter EC120B
ZS-HGD Robinson R44
ZS-RWF Longranger
And overflying on Coast Guard duties:
ZS-RRA Agusta-Westland AW139
We then headed back into the mall so that I could buy my pressies for the family,at this point Geoff stated that he had never been in a helicopter so would like to try it,he even said he would treat me to me (last time in a heli was in 1974 New York Airways Sikorsky S61).The operator we chose said that if Iron Maiden hadn't have booked all the choppers that afternoon we could have flown there and then. However he said that we could fly tomorrow at 10 am,so be there there for 09.45,he also let us have a 5 seat Jetranger for the same cost of a four seat Robinson R44.Deal done the excitement wasn't over because as we left I literally bumped into iron Maiden's lead singer, the one and only Bruce Dickinson.
With flights booked and pressies bought we head back to CPT for another session on the viewing deck, small log for this session:
ZS-KKC PA38 Tomohawk 112
ZS-SMY PC12
G-CIVP B747 British Airways
ET-AQO B737 Ethiopian
ZS-TMR Beech King Air 350
ET-APO B737 Ethiopian
