Gents, some of you may know that Peter is in the process of assembling an Air Day at Blackbushe on 30th July. As with any organised event, there is a need for people to offer their help in all areas. Peter is holding a meeting at Blackbushe on 2nd July where he will explain what he needs and where volunteers can offer their help to make the day run smoothly. Please, if there's any way in which you think you can help, then do go along to the meeting on the 2nd where I know Peter will be very pleased to see you. Thanks

Hi Guys,
Just to give you a quick update on yesterday' meeting.
Peter Brown will need some additional hands to help in all sorts of areas but the main one's are these;
1) Car park entrances to make sure we are accommodating vehicles and occupants.
2) Accepting funds on the gates (BCA car park and at rear of tower car park coming from the common; £5 per person entrance fees will be collected at these points.
3) Supervising the public between car park area (BCA car parks at far western end the air field) to the British Airways buses which will operate a shuttle service from car parks to the tower car park, all day.
4) We'll also need support to supervise the entrance to the flight line - similar to other shows where photographers like to get up close, PB would like to ask for donations from the public at this point and we're recommending £2 per person.
5) We may also need some 'muscle' in order to move some barriers around during the build-up and break-down plus some bin emptying throughout the day.
6) There will be a raffle on the day - so if you think you can help with this either before, or on the day, please put your hand up.... There are some really neat prizes to be won... Really impressed with PB's work on this front...
Just to mention that all profits will be donated to Aeromobility at Blackbushe - so it's a really good cause for AFA o get behind.
There will be a further volunteers meeting on Wednesday, July 27th (time to be confirmed) at BBS - so please, if you can help, mark this in your diary.
Peter can be contacted either by PM off AFA or from his own BBS site - so please get involved. Graham, Jeff and I will be attending so please give PB a hand...
All the best and look forward to seeing you all on July 30th.
Cheers.
Bill

Lads, this is in no way a call to arms for Peter's show day but as we now have a few members who live fairly close to me here in Devizes, and I know that Peter still needs willing volunteers, if anyone would like to help out on the day with me, then I'm happy to offer the spare seats in my car. The company pays for the diesel so no costs involved at all.

Hi guys
Amid the distractions of Farnborough traffic flying over the roof tops, or even worse creating the frustration of hearing - but not seeing - aeroplanes doing their bit for the Display Committee work goes ahead toward the slightly smaller event at Blackbushe on 30 July.
Can't say how much we appreciate the help from AFA and look forward to welcoming lots of AFA's crew to Blackbushe, and hopefully adding to our volunteer pool. Unlike the "big shows" that dominate the summer skies, our Blackbushe Air Day is a much quieter affair. BUT, it will give visitors to get close to a variety of aviation hardware, the Hurricane for example, and it strictly a charity affair raising money for Aerobility. Our budgets are minute compared to other shows in the south, and our entrance fees are minute in comparison. Do come along, and buy some raffe tickets, enter our "Guess the Height" contest or simply cheer on the NATS teams involved in "The Big Pull".
We have a final volunteer meeting at Blackbushe on 27/7 at 19.00, planned venue being Aerobility's offices.
If you cannot make the 27/7 meeting but still wish to volunteer we would ask that you arrive at Blackbushe on 30/7 by 08.30, 09.00 at a push. Please make your way to the western BCA car park entrance where transport will be provided to get you to the main Terminal zone. NO vehicles are permitted into what is normally the Terminal car park apart from exhibitors setting up. The only vehicles otherwise permitted will be the British Airways coaches providing a shuttle service all day.
A full volunteer briefing will be given at 09.00 on 30/7.
Hope that answers any immediate questions?
Thanks in advance
Peter B

Gents, Peter has a noble cause for the long awaited show at Blackbushe on Saturday, namely Aerobility who are able to get mobility impaired persons into the air for what must be an exhilarating experience. I know that as volunteers, we will as such gain access to the show free of charge but I will certainly be putting my fiver "entrance fee" into whatever collection bucket I can find. I think it would be a great gesture from the members of AFA who are helping on the day to consider doing the same but of course chaps, that's your call. Looking forward to seeing you all on the day and here's wishing Peter's "grand day out" all the very best.

Dear All at AFA...
The dust has settled and the day is done...
The most heart felt thanks has to go to all our volunteers recruited from AFA and the One-Stop forum. A brilliant team effort that shows what we can do as a united body.
The Air Day was a shot in the dark, the concept of an Air Day without an air display might have sounded a bit cranky, but I wanted to put together a fly-in combined with an "event" where visitors could get closer to aeroplanes than normal at air shows while at the same time finding things to keep the kids happy, some good food, and excellent prizes via our raffle. Comments suggest we did OK, certainly we had no idea how many people would turn up which for a trial run as this was, it certainly provided a challenge as to how many we dared to cater for..
The weather was just right, although low cloud elsewhere hampered a few inbounds, and some of our star static park aircraft had to cancel for a variety of reasons.. Frustrating after months of negotiations when that happens, but cannot be helped and I'm pretty sure that all had a good time and enjoyed our acquired aeroplanes..
I cannot talk about 2017 yet, the year when Blackbushe becomes 75 years old, but I'm formulating ideas that will make it bigger, better and more easily managed. Only ideas, we've a long way to go, but I think we've started something worth building on?
It's only with the help that we get from folk like you guys who get stuck in and work their socks off that events like this can succeed. May I ask that you get some new socks ready for next year??
Thank you again to Graham, Jeff, Bill and all the heroes from AFA. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peter B

Peter, I'm sure I speak for all the AFA-ers who assisted on the day that it was our pleasure to be able to do whatever was required of us. The day ran like clockwork, everyone, both visitors and helpers were so happy to be a part of such a great day out on such a historic airfield. The seed has been sown I'm sure. Laura has also emailed everyone who helped, and I've replied to her to say, as I will here, that I would be delighted to help out on any future "Blackbushe Air Days". Huge applause to you Peter for the idea, the planning and the execution of such a superb day out.

Graham can I also say a big thank you for manning your traffic island as you did. I am forever in your debt. You will be glad to hear that you will be made redundant from that job. You are being replaced with a sign. Thank you PeteV

Graham, Sorry mate, life can be tough at the top, these zero pay contracts don't mince their words.... Obviously surviving a whole shift is honour enough, you were pioneering a new event that may lead to who knows what? ..........Who said bankruptcy? You may not have been paid a whole lot but at least we gave you a bank to stand on...(during meal breaks only). Meal breaks? Don't recall them being in the contract either... But, you will go down in the annals (hope I got the spelling right?) of Blackbushe history. On behalf of the 'management' we hope you enjoy your retirement and thank you for the long service given.... PS Can you come back next year?? P

I'd go anywhere for a cheese and lettuce sandwich on granary bread Peter!! The apple, the chocolate bar and the bag of crisps were added bonuses. Shame I didn't bring a bag with me - the copse opposite where I was "on duty" was resplendent with ripe blackberries. Having said that, a chap did pull over in his car and rush into that same copse for a quick pee, so on reflection, probably a good job I didn't pick the blackberries!
