Was the other side of Farnborough at the time but sounded busy and looked like a silhouette of a F-16 (was my first though) but was miles away so could have been a couple leaving and something doing a circuit I suppose.

Hi folks
This is clearly the most forum friendly aviation website on the net so I'm not sure if I should prompt potentially antagonistic discussions here but here goes. I've put this ping into Farnborough Thursday because that's the day I went - definitely the best day to go weather wise. As a trade day but wind down day for those in the chalets, I found it disappointing that trade day aircraft started to disappear as early as Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
The static is what one should expect for a business show but I gather even more static exhibits left on Friday for the return journey back home. BAe Typhoon and F35 pilot's had a swanny up in London on Thursday hence the no show - according to other websites. If I was CEO of BAe - I would demand that their best 2 assets be displayed on the final trade day - believe me - when that final Typhoon rolls off the production line at Warton and Hawk production ends - we can kiss goodbye to UK aircraft production!! The back ends of all the worlds F35's will continue to be built at Salmesbury - whoopee! (OK I do know we do quite a bit of the avionic architechture/engines)but we won't be building whole planes again!
Sitting in the beer garden of the Swan Thursday evening - and this is a story in itself - it appears that TAG aviation who run Farnborough are now owners of the Swan too. They have closed the pub car park and put tables down. From Monday to Thursday anyone wishing to book a table pays £5. On Friday it's £40 and Sat/Sun it's £60. Apparently they are fully booked for the weekend by people who want to get close up over the head shots of aircraft landing. It's a lot to pay for a single table but I suppose if there are 4 people who just want to take photos then it's better than paying £40 to get on site.
This brings me back to my original point, those that pay megabucks for a weekends entertainment might be in for a shock - I saw all the good new stuff leaving and a load of historic arriving. It really was only the big or fast heavy metal that made it to the eastern end on trade days. The small stuff got lost down the western end. The exhibition halls will be shut and my guess is that the best you can hope for over the weekend is little more than a display you might see at Bournemouth or Eastbourne! Just my personal take on it!
PS: Beer on site is £5 a pint and expect to pay £7 for a burger unless you have access to what corporate hospitality might be left. Cheers

Hi Keefy, Unfortunately this of aircraft before the weekend has been happening for about the last 20 years from memory, I suppose aircraft on the ground in leafy Hampshire dont make money and cant be tested, departing on a Thurs or Fri gives the crews time for R and R and ready for another week of testing on the Monday. The Airshow is now two distinct shows, the trade show and the weekend show. Again this year Farnborough will be sold out, this is "Londons" airshow joe public will enjoy there day out watching Pitts do aeros and pretty ladies standing atop old planes, time will tell how just flypasts will go down by the reds though! Yes £48 sounds a lot but Kids go free, its an all day event from 8am to 18.30 with plenty to do and see while there. Take into account England Rugby tickets are £45 per adult and Chelsea tickets are a stonking £80 (cheapest I could find) for a 90 min spectacle Farnborough prices seem quite good in comparison.
From another site, unofficial stats, since the 4th July over 530 aircraft have visited and there have been 1200 movements plus a daily flying program! for a spotter and photographer this is still the biggest airshow in the UK....long may it continue

Hi Keefy
I don't think that is potentially antagonistic. Most of us agree that it is a shame that this happens. But as Jeff says, and I said on another thread, a lot of the public won't know or really care as long the display is good. It's a good comparison against a football match for cost and length of entertainment.
I'm taking the kids today- I'm sure they'll enjoy the A380, the Apache, the Blades, F18, F:35, Typhoon and many more.
It's a shame about the lack of a proper Red Arrows display but that's due the new rules.
By the way, the same thing happens at Paris and Berlin to a degree- trade show types leave after the first couple of days, to be replaced by "airshow" types.
