Not sure which section to post this in but here goes.
I had to do a taxi run from the west country up to central London yesterday to deliver my ex mother-in-law to her sisters in Old Street.
Had lunch there but not wishing to hang about with a very nice bunch of old grannies I took myself off to Richmond Park. The cloud had cleared and the skies were blue. I found a bench that overlooks all of London and it was happy days. The jets were on 27L and you could see them coming in from the stacks over Biggin and Ongar. All helicopter traffic along the Thames was visible. Numerous executive jets flying south-north at altitude plus all the high level stuff on the airways.
I'm not a photographer but I reckon you guys with the expensive zoom cameras would have a field day in Richmond park. You won't get LHR departures but it's a place where you can take the kids for a picnic and have your fix too. Only recommended on a blue sky day though - parking if free but watch out for the deer s..t!
Cheers Keith

I would recommend parking at Pembroke Lodge - free parking and refreshments available. Then just follow your nose and head north easterly across the numerous paths available - there is a fenced area to your right which is some sort of nature reserve and pitch up wherever it suits - you won't miss anything going into LHR
Cheers

The jets are at about 1500ft or less as they pass over Richmond

I think you might find the 'Numerous executive jets flying south-north' are actually schedules and ITs inbound to Luton and Stansted from Spain and the south of France; it's the 'standard routing' towards Barkway VOR. If you want a superb view of Heathrow arrivals when landing on the 27s, why not take in a football match at Craven Cottage; they pass overhead.

Brentford is closer and they actually play football there :-)
