Have now sorted my wifi problems, so here goes.
As Mark has commented elsewhere, I'm up here feeding my USAF appetite.
Lakenheath has been very slack in terms of movements, so I have not got over there yet.
Only went past Cambridge on Monday, so all I glimpsed was the two WFU Swedish Hercs. So I missed out on the latest special tail for the RAF (which happens to be the only RAF Herc that I need. See www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=310&t=136976 for a picture of ZH866.
Arrived at Mildenhall on Saturday afternoon and logged the following (Bold type indicates those made):

Friday 23rd September
Very slack day here - the only two visitors arrived before I got up!!
06-6163 C-17A 60AMW..........................arrived before 0400 and didn't even wake me up!!! 87-0122 KC-10A 305AMW..."ROMA21".......wonder what this will be/has been up to???
Other than these, just a bit of circuit bashing from a based '135.
Lakenheath was also very slack, so didn't bother to visit.
Up on a test flight from Marshalls at Cambridge was Austrian AF Hercules 8T-CB as "MCE03" (callsign not showing on virtual radar apps). Was quite visible as it tracked down the West side of the 'Hall and then positioned for its approach to Cambridge.
Lets hope tomorrow is more active!!
Still, I can't grumble. I've made 24 so far - including all of my outstanding based machines (except the one down in France, of course).

The SD ANG F-16Cs are on their way home from Lask AB (Poland) and have arrived due to their tanker going "tech" before it left the US. No departure date is currently known, but there is no ALTRV for tomorrow (Sunday) as yet, so they may well not be departing until next week sometime.
My wedding anniversary today, so my wife and I had a lovely meal down the "Half Moon" - a Hungry Horse pub, but excellent food.

Oops!! Now corrected. Thanks, Mark.
They took everyone by surprise - even Paul. Nobody knew a thing until they transferred from 277.300 to 259.600 (presumably at the FIR boundary).
**** F-16s Departure will be at 10.15BST tomorrow (Sunday) ****
No ALTRV as they are going direct from UK into Reykjavik airspace and not touching Shanwick Oceanic. Credit FC for this latest info.
Pictures (not mine) of the day's visitors can be found at www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&p=848038#p848038. Thanks, Paul.
Cheers,

Visitors were:-
87-0124 KC-10A 305AMW......and subsequently departed to Ramstein. 58-0125 KC-135T 92ARW
The C-40 has departed to Stuttgart and then Rota, and "CLEAN71" KC-10A 87-0121 has also departed (back to McGuire AFB).

Looking forward to some action tomorrow.

The Massachusetts and Californian Eagles that deployed as part of Atlantic resolve are due back to CONUS at the end of September - I wonder if they might transit back through Lakenheath?
Eight of them were at Fresian flag way back in April.

LOL.
She's the one who kept saying "when are we going up there?". She's not a spotter, but just loves seeing the planes! We are already thinking about next year - probably two trips up here (or more).
You'll have to get a caravan, Graham. The freedom is incredible. Pick your base and travel around from there. The Nook Campsite (John's Field) is only £9.50/night for two people.
Start talking a bit faster - and don't just think in terms of hot sunny places for a holiday. There is nothing wrong with the UK and there are plenty of interesting places to visit when you want a break from the planes.
Good luck!!

Thanks Bob, she is "fairly" interested, for example, when we were at Diagoras waiting to come home last Wednesday, she quite willingly walked to the far end of the departure area to read off the Canadian AF C-130 that was parked on the apron. Then, a Hellenic AF C-27 landed and she was craning her neck trying to see where it had gone. As for watching the arrivals and departures at Diagoras when we were 850ft up at the Monastery, she said she could stay there all day watching the planes. So, there may well be some hope....

Arrived as a 6, then 4 and the remaining 2 about 2.5 hours later. They are in until Friday morning.
Will post serials later on.

Thursday 29th September
It is the end of the US DoD Financial Year, so activity is minimal (to say the least!!!)
Lakenheath "HKY61" C-130J 06-8610/RS was doing para-dropping lunchtime and early afternoon (wind permitting) and then went home to Ramstein.
I think I heard just two F-15s take-off today.
Mildenhall 166694 C-40A VR-56 ZZ176 C-17 99 Sqdn......Special tail....."RRR817".....pattern work, then land and subsequently depart 84-0085 C-21A 76AS.............................."VALOR42".....pattern work, then land and subsequently depart 89-1181 C-130H 158AS/Georgia ANG..........new to unit.
based 11-5737 MC-130J..........back from upgrade at Hurlburt Field, Fl......landed in the wee small hours.
Will go to watch the ANG F-15s depart tomorrow morning (11.00BST) and will then have a dead day at both bases - possibly the SOG might be active??
Will need to catch up on my sleep at the KC-10 is due out at 05.30 plus 3 x KC-135s to refuel the E-4B ("GRIM22" 74-0787) supporting "AF1" (82-8000). The E-4B is going to position at Aviano AB, Italy.
All are currently over the Atlantic. "AF1" will gas & go at Ramstein (we suspect), the two Escape jets (C-32As 09-0016/17) plus "SAM592" C-32A 98-0002 will gas & go at Shannon. The third Escape jet C-32A 09-0015 is already at Ramstein. All of these should go over in the small hours.
Cheers,
Bob

That's the one.
TR1 is the F-15s/tanker combine. TR2 is the two KC-10s (79-0433/87-0120) coming down from Keflavik to take them onwards from 20W. TR3 is the two KC-135s (62-3580/62-3542) departing the combine at 20W to go into Shannon. Why there?? We can't work that out as yet.
Possible routing up to MIMKU is for them to head for LEE and then refuel up to LUK and turn sharp left for MIMKU.
Cheers,
Bob

We believe that that is all it is, Mike - rumour. Just the troops (which came in on the C-40) and no flying assets.
There is nothing down for them on the MOD Exercise Page for next week (Google it and you will see just the Swedish AF up North plus "Ex Lobster Pot" on the South Coast). VMM-266 was specifically mentioned last time.

Friday 30 September
Lakenheath Went up to see the ANG F-15s depart. Wonderful sight!! They routed as indicated in an earlier post. The two Seymour Johnson KC-135s (out of Mildenhall) recovered to Prestwick, not Shannon.
Was not aware of any other movements at all - except possibly a pair of HH-60s which were reported Westbound over Northolt and later in the Boscombe Down area.
Mildenhall Just the one visitor today:-
64-14849 RC-135U 55Wg
I didn't get woken up this morning. The KC-10 refuelled the E-4 on its way back this afternoon (and carried on with it), not on its way in. A based KC-135 went off to refuel a B-52 late morning, but the B-52 (61-0036/LA) diverted into Moron and the 135 twiddled its thumbs for a few hours before returning to Mildenhall.
Base has almost emptied out of visitors - just the RC-135U (we don't know its intentions) and the two Ga. ANG C-130Hs (which should be departing tomorrow) are left.
Tomorrow we are due a C-21 and that is it. C-5 and a Fairchild KC-135 on Sunday (that we know of at the moment).
Cheers,
Bob
