I spent most of November in New Zealand. We flew from Heathrow on Singapore AL. We had originally booked via Manchester but the Friday flight was cancelled from 31.10 so we were rerouted. We flew out on 4th November on 9V-SWJ B777-312ER. Arriving at Changi at about 07:00 we had a day of spotting before departing for Auckland on A380 9V-SKH. My first time on an A380. Singapore /Changi as always was brilliant. I copped 170+ and will post some photos later. I stayed mostly in terminal 3 as that is by the usual arrivals runway, although a few do use the runway in front of terminal 2. We did go up to terminal 1. From here both runway approaches can be seen if they are landing from the east, but FR24 is needed and the views are not great. After arrival in Auckland we had about 4 hours to wait before our flight to Nelson. This was on ATR72 ZK-MCF of Mount Cook AL /Air New Zealand Link. The terminal at Auckland is being rebuilt & the viewing area has been closed. There are some seats outside about half way between the International & Domestic terminals and from these some movements can bee seen but useless for photographs. Another 40 went in the book here. I will include some photo's later as we spent a week here later in the holiday. We were spending time with family at Nelson so spotting was a little limited, also Nelson is not busy, being restricted to ATR72, DHC8 and smaller aircraft of SoundsAir (PC12 & Cessna 208) and Air2There (Cessna 208 & KA200) Here are some photo's from Nelson & another local field Motueka. more photo's can be seen at www.flickr.com/gp/110881070@N03/08k2J5 ZK-TCV Titan T-51 Mustang NZNS 22.11.16 (1) by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-XIT PC-6B Turbo Porter NZNS 17.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr VH-PFQ PA42-400LS NZNS 7.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr VH-TQK DHC.8-315 NZNS 17.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-CTH Diamond DA42 Twin Star NZNS 9.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-DDX NZ Aerospace FU24-950 NZNS 22.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-FDR King Air 200C NZNS 18.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-HJV Aerospatiale AS350B NZNS 8.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-HSL Bell 206B JetRanger NZNS 18.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-IHL Aerospatiale AS350B NZNS 18.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-IMN MBB Bk.117B-2 NZNS 9.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-MCB ATR72-212 NZNS 24.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-NEO DHC.8-311Q NZNS 17.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-NET DHC.8-311Q NZNS 22.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-TFP Van's RV-12 NZNS 8.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-THK Tim Bygate Tiger Hawk NZNS 23.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr At Motueka ZK-TCV Titan T-51 Mustang NZMK 8.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr ZK-XIT PC-6B Turbo Porter NZMK 8.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr I will continue later with some photo's from our travel around the South Island Graham GTF4J2M

After a short time at Nelson we set off on the 11th November to travel a bit around the South Island, we had done this several times during past visits and this time decided on the West Coast route south. The weather on the first day was terrible with very heavy rain, so no spotting at all. Greymouth & Hokitika airports were all shut up and empty. On the Saturday the weather was better and a few helicopters and light aircraft were noted at Franz Josef Glacier, Fox Glacier & Haast. I always look for helicopters in gardens and was not disappointed. Unfortunately the cloud thickened during the day and curtailed much of the flying. We stopped at Wanaka hoping for accommodation but had to continue to Queenstown. We had a quick look at the airport the next morning and copped several including N599CH GLEX and ZK-CCP L-39 but no photo's this time, lots of building work since our last visit. We had been looking forward to visiting the airfield at Mount Cook for the Ski planes but the weather was not good with lots of low cloud so the decision was made to go to Christchurch and spend 3 nights there and then return to Nelson via Kaikoura. We found a motel, had some food and settled down for the night only to be woken at midnight with the room rocking & rolling for 2 minutes, with several more shocks and quakes throughout the night. After hearing the news nest morning that Kaikoura was cut off and all roads north were blocked, we decided to head back to Nelson straight away. A quick stop at the airport saw 2 LC-130H's &a C-17 go in the book plus L-39's ZK-SSU &ZK-VAU. No photo's here either. On Saturday 19th November I had a day away at Omarka, about an 1 hour 30 from Nelson. This a fairly busy GA field with an excellent museum. There appeared to be a fly-in and aerobatic competition in progress. The Omarka Aviation Heritage Centre has 2 exhibitions and both are worth seeing. The 'Dangerous Skies' having only opened the previous week. I wanted to see the Anson here, which had been finished rebuild and flown since I saw in the workshop close to Wakefield in 2007. Keep looking, I have more yet. I would also like to visit Oz. We are planning that trip with NZ as well possibly in 2019. Easter is the best time. Weather in NZ is more settled in Autumn and the Omarka Airshow is nothing short of brilliant.
More photo's tomorrow

After about 3 weeks in the South Island it was time to head north for a week around the Auckland area. Our flight this time was in ZK-NEU DHC8 of Air Nelson /Air New Zealand Link & took 1 hour 15 for the journey from Nelson. Auckland was very warm & sunny. After getting our hire car we spent the rest of the afternoon in the viewing area off the eastern end of the runway, where all movements can be seen. My wife does not mind me watching aircraft, I am very lucky there. Auckland is not a very busy airport but had more movements than my last visit in 2011, especially Chinese. This year China Southern & Cathay Pacific had been joined by Air China (B787), China AL (A330), China Eastern (A330). Also new services were being operated by American AL (B787), United AL (B777), AirAsia X (A330), Virgin Australia (B737-800), Philippine AL (A320). We stayed in a motel about 20kms south of the airport, so we could be away from the city and use the railway to get into Auckland City. On the Friday (25th) we went into Auckland City as the weather had turned wet & windy. The only aircraft of note was ZK-AMA Beaver of Auckland Seaplanes flying over the harbour, but the water was too rough for landing, so I missed a photo of that one. I have to agree with the comments so far, lovely shots. One question though what ate the reggies of the aircraft with three letters on them? I had assumed originally that these were microlight reggies however ive noticed that some helis and cessnas have them too New Zealand regulations require only the last three to be displayed on the aircraft unless they are to be operated to or from points outside the country in which case international rules require the display of the full registration including the international (ZK-) prefix. The range of the smaller aircraft on the register effectively dictates that they are unable to reach any international point outside NZ, so the majority carry only the last three.

Also helicopters in the ZK-H range sometimes only carry the last 2 letters, ZK-J range carry all 3.

There are several GA airfields close to Auckland and we visited the biggest Ardmore several times. There is a good cafe here which we used for breakfast occasionally. In past visits access here has been OK and you could walk where you wanted, this visit fences had gone with notices attached. Much was still seen though. On Wednesday 30th the holiday was over and we were booked on the night flight to Singapore leaving at 01:15 on Thursday 1.12. Although we were booked with Singapore AL this flight was operated by their Star Alliance partner Air New Zealand and we flew in ZK-NZC B787. After a 10 hour flight we arrived at Changi at 07:00. It was a very good flight, although I slept most of the flight. Our flight to Heathrow did not leave until around midnight so another day of spotting at Changi was had and another 150+ went in the book. The Heathrow flight left on time in A380 9V-SKG taking 13 hr 10 for the trip and arriving nearly an hour early. We were seated upstairs this time 2 abreast, very comfy and plenty sleep. I managed to get all the SilkAir 737's this time, all but one of the Jetstar A320's but still did not see my last SIA B777 & A380. The camera that I used on this trip was my Panasonic Lumix FZ200 bridge camera and it performed well as you can see. Some photo's from Singapore. You have to photograph through tinted glass here and this leaves a green tint on the photo's. This can be corrected by the computer program, I just usually use colour balance & some extra contrast if needed. As can be seen some reflections do occur. Spotting & photography at Changi are no problem. 4R-ABO A320-214 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 4R-ALO A330-343 WSSS 1.12.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 9M-AFV A320-216 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 9M-AFZ A320-216 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 9M-LNZ Malindo Air WSSS 1.12.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 9M-NEO A320-251N WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 9V-MGQ B737-8SA WSSS 1.12.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 9V-OFA B787-8 WSSS 1.12.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr 9V-TRW A320-232 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr A5-JSW A319-115 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr B-5931 A330-243 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr B-6200 A319-112 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr B-6485 B737-85C WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr B-50008 A320-232 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr HS-ABD A320-216 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr HS-PPA A319-132 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr HS-THB A350-941 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr HS-TQB B787-8 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr JA8356 B767-381ERF WSSS 1.12.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr PK-LAT A320-214 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr RP-C3277 A320-214 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr RP-C9905 A321-231 WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr S2-AHV B737-8E9 WSSS 1.12.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr VN-A605 A321-231 WSSS 1.12.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr VT-AXH B737-8HG WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr VT-JBR B737-85R WSSS 5.11.16 by Graham Taylor, on Flickr XY-ALB B737-86N WSSS 1.12.16 (2) by Graham Taylor, on Flickr Thanks for looking I hope you all enjoyed the photo's & reports.
