G-AOXL was the last commercial flight to leave the airport 30/09/59 ''G-AOXL'' which is outside the terminal on a plinth is actually G-ANUO. looking through G-ANUO owners I note three together that were Fairoaks based Aviation Enterprises, Aces High and Topflight between 10/82 and 08/88 was it actually based there?? Wow. Seeing the original regn G-ANUO brought back memories from the early 1970s, when what I believe to be the only 4-engined aircraft ever to operate from Leicester East Airfield (as it was known then) used to noisily depart over our house at 0745 every weekday, ferrying GEC workers bound for (I think) Wales.
It used to be hangared every night at the western end of the large black hangar - the only one on the field at the time - dominating the space and surrounded by over a dozen Auster types and club Cessna aircraft.
An impressive sight. The hangar staff were friendly to a young spotter back then and I remember wandering around and under UO on each visit.
Good to hear that the airframe is preserved, albeit perched on a plinth!
