Here is a photo, taken in November 16, of the Bristol Freighter that is being possibly brought back to the UK. It has sat at Ardmore for many years. The climate is good in that part of New Zealand, so the airframe may be sound. I would be very surprised though if it flew again. Always amazed me that they ever flew in the first place Graham! NZ5911 is certainly going to need a great deal of TLC.

Reminds me of the last one I saw flying C-FDFC which put in an appearance at Heathrow more years ago than I care to remember.

Apart from the Instone, the only others I can recall seeing were back in the early 70's at Lasham. In amongst the retired Comets were a Lamb Air (Canadian) and one in RAF markings. I have the serials somewhere in a log

So, you guys never went to Blackbushe!! I've lived within 10 miles of Blackbushe all my life. Unfortunately, it hasn't looked anything like that in the 42 years I've been alive! Great pics as ever!

ZZ. Sadly Blackbushe has not looked like that since May 31, 1960. After that the wreckers moved and flattened the place faster than the government's Gatwick project was growing... a fantastic aviation asset destroyed 57 years ago, but by a miracle she still hangs on!!!
Tragic, and Bristol Freighters vanished from our horizons too!

I have the serials somewhere in a log I found my log for Lasham and it was earlier than I thought. It was 29th Nov 1969 and the Bristols were, CF-YDO Lambair and XJ470. There were also three Malaysia Singapore Comets and it was snowing!

From what I understand, the Freighter will be stored in the "Brabazon Hangar" as there is no museum building for it yet. it will not be viewable. I do wonder if they assemble it there, will it be too heavy to tow across the railway bridge,as the Harrier apparently was, I wonder if a Chinook can lift it?? I fear it will be a considerable time before it is on public view.

The Freighter is now safely in the Brabazon hanger. BBC West recorded the entire journey in their Facebook page www.facebook.com/pointswest/videos/1536976746397463/I made my second visit to the museum since it's opening yesterday, along with my grandson, and I have to say it is an incredibly professional setup clearly designed to cater for people of all ages. There is still space to add further exhibits in the main museum but the Freighter will have to wait for it's own purpose built hangar. Cheers Keith
