Awesome! What a great log!
The most exciting visit I've had to Prestwick involved a tour of the BAe flying school in 1996. I made about 40 Cherokees and the like! It's not quite the same...
Welcome back Bob!

I visited Scottish Aviation at Prestwick in June of 1965 but only logged 16 Starfighters on overhaul plus further Canadians - 7 T-Birds, a C45 which was broken up there and a Dak which later joined the RAF and is now the BoM Memorial Flight aircraft. The USAF were also still based there then with their fleet of Rescue SC54s. I had decided to splash out and took a BOAC B707 (G-APFL) from Heathrow with a stop at Manchester and on up to Prestwick (it eventually went on to Canada I think) at the princely sum of £5 for a stand-by fare, which they had in those far off days.
A more productive (hitch hiking) trip there was even longer ago in 1962 when the log produced two of the USAF Rescue Albatross' but the Canadian haul was exactly 50 stored Sabres (many of which ended their days on the Staravia dumps at Church Crookham and Lasham), 16 CF100 (many of which also migrated to the Lasham dump) and 9 T-Birds. I do have some photos but my slide scanner is presently u/s so these will have to wait until another day.

Hi Bob I guess that you were at Prestwick just at the time that the Canadians placed most of their European based Starfighters in store there before as you say some went on to Turkey & others to Norway (I do have fates for I think all of the Canadian Stars so let me know if you need anything). When I was there in 65 the only Stars were those passing through the maintenance bays. My 1962 trip coincided with the retirement of most of the European based Sabres as yours did for the Stars. Would like to have been on your trip though. In 1962 Scottish Aviation were still building Pioneers and Twin Pioneers there (most of those I saw on the line were for Malaysia) and also converting the ex Royal Navy Skyraiders for their new target towing duties in Sweden. Caught up with one of them a few years back in the museum in Stockholm which brough back some memories as did your post for which many thanks. Best wishes Dave

Great log Bob, thank you, were the Canucks as good at crashing their 104s as the Germans?

Hi Malcolm. Good to hear that you are back at Lasham keeping them in order.
