Hi Guys I thought I read on a post a few weeks ago about someone who was particularly interested in the 'Islander' - may have been Christoff, sadly I can't find the post. Anyway, I came across these old photo's I had in my collection (not taken by me, but all seen). Some of you will recognize, all taken at the 'old' Gatwick Airport in the late 60's and early 70's. Cheers lads. Bill

Thanks for posting, its always great to see photos of Islanders and I never tire of looking at them, how I miss the sound of twin Lycomings here on the Island, maybe just maybe those wonderful sounds will ring in the skys once again at Bembridge.

Back in the mid 1970s we visited Bembridge and the airfield was covered in airframes including a BN2 bound for Venuzuala YV-???CP. If anyone can remember that registration I'd be delighted to find out.

In my head I have 141CP, but could well have been 142 I guess, but I saw it during the summer school holidays in about 1975 or 6? There were dozens of them in the long grass by the factory opposite where the light aircraft once parked.

I would add that a couple of years later and having written a few letters, I got a tour of the 'store' at Eastleigh. This was in one of the old Vickers Supermarine hangars. It had been converted to hold industrial racking with dozens of fuselage, wings, tails etc. Construction numbers galore! I still remember being shown in and being told 'DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!'. I was in there for ages!
