Morning all
We appear to have had a couple of spamming posts this past few days, offering various kinds of illegal products and services. Thanks to members here letting me, Jeff or Bill know, they are usually dealt with and removed pretty quickly, so we thank you for that. I have contacted Pro Boards Support and they say the only way to (maybe...) get rid of them is to approve all requests to join AFA prior to letting anyone in. We don't want to go down that route as to all intents, the level of spam posts we get here is minimal and we don't want to deter any potential member from joining us if they feel they have to be "approved" first.
The recent spammer has used slightly different usernames and totally different email addresses to sign on so we will never eradicate that, despite him/her being banned when they posted the first time. Could we therefore please ask all members to keep their collective eyes peeled and if they do spot a spam post, please let one of us know. Please don't respond to the spam posts, it only seems to whet their appetites to post more.
In over two years, I doubt we have had more than a dozen spam posts, out of almost 30,000 "proper" posts so it isn't a huge issue. But if we can stamp on them quickly, then that might deter the spammers from bothering us again.
Thanks to everyone
Graham, Jeff & Bill

We do liase with the 'small ports team' (Pc Paul Parfitt from memory) so it is an open door as such, sounds like an idea. We have however deleted the messages now 😞 maybe next time.

"325 documents" still needs to be deleted from members at the bottom of the AFA site. Thanks Les

That's done now Les, thanks for pointing it out. We will certainly pass any spammer's details on to the small ports team next time Bob.

I'm working down that way next week Les and am hoping to have the time to call by Bodmin and Dunkeswell, neither of which I've visited for over 18 months. Always found both fields ultra friendly as is Perranporth. Have you ever visited St Merryn? I believe there are plenty of ultralights based there but on both occasions that I've called by, I've never seen a thing except rutted tarmac and derelict buildings.

I have not been to St. Merryn as I recall. I have visited Bodmin & Perranporth with access granted. We were at Dunkeswell on Friday 17th ( see report ) and going back tomorrow hopefully to log more. Les

Chaps...think there is still a spam post under March 2017 ...the legit passport one. Would hate someone to open it by mistake and unleash nasties.

Graham Hi Graham, Just been looking through the system and I can only find the exchanges between Graham (our's) and Bob, is that the one you are referring to? If I've missed it let me know and I'll get it removed. Cheers mate. Bill

If you open the thread the actual post has been removed, just the title remains. Opening a thread won't endanger anyone but any links therein might!

Mark Thanks Mark, The thread will stay live but the individual and his/her post was deleted... So any potential threat has gone. I think Graham mentioned that it's best just to ignore any further spamming incursion, as soon as Graham, Jeff or myself spot one, we'll delete the person and that also then deletes the thread - once members post on the thread, it stays live... That's why you can just see the messages. Hope this helps. Bill

Hi Guys,
Just to finalise the actions we have taken. The last spammer thread has now been completely removed.
Thanks to everyone involved but just a last reminder to all members. If a spam thread is opened by an outsider (they are pretty obvious), please just ignore it and, importantly, do not react or respond to it. Graham, Jeff and I try to keep on top of this issue but when we detect a spammer we automatically ban the source and this instantly eliminates all related posts or threads.
Thanks for your cooperation guys. Should you have reason for us to get involved just let all or any of us know.
Items such as the last one (selling dodgy visas, passports etc) are sent to the relevant authorities for their attention and action.
Cheers Fellas.
Bill
