Hi Fellas, Couldn't not make mention of Dame Vera Lynn's 100th birthday today.... Whenever I hear her voice or see a photo or news item it reminds me of my dad who left the UK in 1940 and was shipped out to India and Burma... He spent his entire war overseas with 3 years in the jungle, suffered malaria 7 times and lost a brother in Malaysia when the Japanese invaded... So Happy Birthday Vera, you gave no end of hope to many thousands of British troops during your visits to far-flung battlefields. www.express.co.uk/celebrity-news/781313/Dame-Vera-Lynn-face-projected-White-Cliffs-Dover-100th-birthdayHope this link works... Quite amazing and sad in some ways Bill to think that Dame Vera has outlived most of the lads she meant so much to during WW11. A lad who went to war aged 17 in 1939 would be almost 90 now. My Dad who passed away six years ago played his part during the latter years of the war in the Royal Marines and always spoke so fondly of her and what a massive boost to morale she always was. Happy Birthday Dame Vera and may you enjoy many more.

I gather that she is to have her favourite for her special lunch today - yes, its veal meat again!

She showed with her far east tour that the forgotten army were not forgotten bless her, also the serviceman where ever she turned up that she was a link to home. A programme recently they were interviewing some vets, about Dame Vera, and what she meant to them, and out of the 4, 3 had tears in their eyes and the 4th broke down and then apologised for doing so...what a generation.
regards, dave...
