Gents, I know that several of you regularly take to the highways and visit lots of fields over a 2 or 3 day period with overnight stays in between. One of our latest recruits Mike Burdett has asked if we can start a "road trip" sub forum as like some of you, he does a lot of these but also wanted the facility to share info such as routes, hotels or B & B's he stayed at, best vantage points, places to eat, can you get hangar access, and so on.
WE did have a go at this about 18 months ago but through no fault of anyone's, it never really got going. Eighteen months down the line, we now have well in excess of 300 members and with the weather (hopefully) bucking up soon, it might be the good time to reintroduce it. There are two sub boards, one for all UK and Europe, and another for anywhere else as I know we have members who also take to the highways in more exotic locations.
A few pointers....
Please post on this new sub forum if you have spent a minimum of two full days on the road and have visited several fields, and had accommodation overnight.
It doesn't matter where you start or where you finish, doesn't matter either if you take in a mixture of GA fields, main or regional airports and military bases, please post them all on your road trip report and log. If you start "up north" and finish "down south", then no worries, this sub forum isn't "geographically" themed.
Please wherever feasible give as much info as possible, which would help other members with planning their trips.
Having talked it over with Jeff and Bill, we think this gives members a much better sound board on which to post their adventures, without having to fragment the trip into for example, six or eight separate reports for each field they've visited.
As ever, we're totally open to ideas, anything we might have missed or anything you guys think would improve the feature.
