Monday 8th May 2017
Yet another dull, dreary and bitingly cold day.
Lakenheath
The F-15Cs have been doing a lot of short missions today, starting at 07.10 this morning. No F-15Es have flown as far as I can gather. I think that the ramped-up activity is going to be confined to 493FS.
Mildenhall Arrivals 13.29 "RCH973" 59-1515 KC-135R 92ARW 13.32 "OLIVE56" 62-4134 RC-135W 55WG.............been out East since November 2016 16.13 "RCH091" 61-0321 KC-135R 100ARW ).......returning from taking the 2nd wave of F-35s back across the pond 17.12 "RCH090" 59-1471 KC-135T 100ARW ) 22.53 "ZIPPY82" 12-0064 CV-22B 7SOS )............from Hamburg 23.00 "ZIPPY81" 08-0051 CV-22B 7SOS )
Departures 11.05 "DRAW41" 11-5733 )............to Poland 11.07 "DRAW42" 12-5757 ) 11.18 "BLUE71" 85-0031..............tanking GAF Tornado 45+09 across to Holloman AFB, NM 12.28 "ZIPPY81" 08-0051 )............to Stuttgart, then to Hamburg
12.33 "ZIPPY82" 12-0064 )
That is now a straight week since I made anything here. Cloud stopped me seeing Alaskan-based C-17A 00-0185. Sod's Law says that it was most likely bright and sunny at home.

Decided to go into Cambridge today to visit our favourite Indian buffet.......and found it closed down, with another one looking to start soon. However, there was a "world grill" next door which was not bad at all. So, disappointment was minimal.
It also gave me the opportunity to make sure of potting one today......
Cambridge 212/MAI C-130J-30 Qatar AF
Plus the usual 5 stored C-130s:- SwAF 84001/841, 84003/843 and RAF ZH880 (47 Sqdn special tail), ZH884 and ZH886.
Then back to John's Field where, an hour later, I got a very pleasant surprise.
Mildenhall Arrivals 09.32 "WGN0330" N435KD MD-11 Western Global 10.37 "RCH207" 87-0036 C-5M 436AW 11.57 "BRK50" 03 C-17 NATO SAW 16.02 "FAF6441" E94/705-RH Alpha Jet AdlA 16.05 "FAF6442" E42/705-TA Alpha Jet AdlA 16.07 "DUKE64" 84-00156 C-12U Coy E/1-214AVN.........did one approach and departed to Prestwick 20.55 "QID29" 57-2605 KC-135R 100ARW.....................back from Rota TDY
Departures 08.47 "OLIVE56" 62-4134/OF 10.34 "RCH973" 59-1515 12.17 "WGN0330" N435KD 13.01 "QID29" 63-8884..............to Rota for TDY 13.47 "BRK50" 03
Lakenheath Arrival 09.20 "HKY61" 08-8604/RS C-130J 37AS.............for para-dropping over STANTA....did one such "mission" today
The F-15Cs of 493FS continued to notch up the missions.
Made four. Could things be looking up??
EDIT:- It looks like I have got KC-135RT 58-0018 to make when I get up tomorrow. Will it be 58-0011 on the way back....fingers crossed??

Bit of a rumour that there might be some foreign tankers in tomorrow for some air refuelling conference (hence the Voyager?). We shall see, but it would be nice.
Lot of people suddenly arrived in John's Field this afternoon/evening for overnighting, so something's in the wind.
Lakenheath
The F-15Cs of 493FS continue to grind out the sorties. Some 494FS missions have been flown, too.

Yep, it certainly will be out of control - and I'm not looking forward to cutting it, either. LOL.
Weekends here are often not good, but we can make up for it during the week (hopefully). Been one (based) departure so far today and the visiting tanker should be going in a few minutes. Don't know of any arrivals due, but you never know,
Ignoring the two TDY machines (RC-135 and "NACHO" KC-135), that will leave just one broken C-5 as a visitor.

Mildenhall
Well, the May Bazaar deprived me of the (needed) E-3B which went into Shannon of all places!! Otherwise, one visitor graced the deck here for three hours - and I made it. Yes it is as slack as hell, but at last I've caught up with it.
Arrival 12.22 "BAF615" CD-01 Falcon 900B Belgian Air Component
Departures 09.09 "GOLD13" 58-0118........off to Rota.... to take the next 5 x F/A-18s East down the Mediterranean (went into Moron yesterday)? 12.19 "RCH640" 59-1480 15.32 "BAF615" CD-01
Doesn't look like anything else is coming in today, but I would not say no to a late night surprise.
Total for trip so far is 55

To all my viewers, thank you for looking and I hope you enjoyed looking at some of the activity of the bases.
It certainly was a marathon and, glutton for punishment(?), we are looking to go back again in a few weeks.
Cheers,
Bob
