Arrived on time from Seoul and parked next to the only Fiji Airways aircraft that I needed.Because we would spend the next three weeks travelling around the main island I knew that I wouldn't see too much and I wouldn't pot too many as things don't change in Fiji too much, noted on arrival were the following:
N525SD Challenger 605
VH-ONU B737 Nauru Airlines
N15HE Gulfstream 3
DQ-FJW A330 Fiji Airways
DQ-GWW DHC Beaver (floats) Pacific Island Air
XA-MPS Gulfstream 5
DQ-LIA PA-31 Navajo 350
DQ-SSS BN-2A Islander Pacific Island Air
Our hotel for the first three nights was the Mercure which is situated right opposite the threshold to runway 02 where the following were noted during the course of the afternoon:
VH-YIE B737 Virgin Australia
VH-YIL B737 Virgin Australia
VH-YIH B737 Virgin Australia
F-OJSB A320 Air Calin
DQ-JMJ Cessna 208B Caravan
DQ-REJ DHC Beaver (floats)
Tuesday 4th April 2017
Today we went on a boat trip to South Sea Island for a day of relaxation after our long flights,it's only a 15 minute boat trip from Port Denarue and you can see airliners on approach to Nadi airport:
South Sea Island
DQ-GEE DHC Beaver (floats) landed and moored up at the landing jetty and seen on approach to Nadi were the following:
VH-YIV B737 Virgin Australia
VH-YIO B737 Virgin Australia
VH-VFN A320 Jetstar
When we had departed Port Denarue there was a yacht moored up named SuRi which had a helicopter on board which was all covered up,when we returned later that evening the yacht was still there but the chopper had gone,so does anyone know of a website which list all yachts that carry helicopters?
Wednesday 5th April 2017
Another day trip, this time out to Barefoot Island, some two hours away so no chance of seeing anything landing @ Nadi, however today there was a helicopter parked up at the Port Denarue helipad:
DQ-HTF Robinson R44 Clipper
Thursday 6th April 2017
Today we moved onto our next stop for the next 8 days the Fiji Hideaway Resort which is located on the main road between Nadi and the capital Suva, most days you will see a light aircraft/helicopter pass over on pleasure flights, saw a bit but only two were of interest to me:
Wednesday 12th April 2017
DQ-PIA DHC Turbo Otter (floats) Pacific Island Air
Thursday 13th April 2017
DQ-HFR Robinson R44 Raven
Friday 14th April 2017
Time to move on again, this time to Wananavu Resort which is in the north of the island near the town of Rakiraki, this meant we had to pass by Nadi airport so we called in for 10 minutes or so and noted the following:
N871BA Global Express XRS
DQ-HMY AS350B Ecureuil
DQ-SST Cessna 150M
Saturday 15th April we moved on again, this time onto the capital Suva where we called into the airport before going onto our hotel (Suva Motor Inn) for the next three nights.Suva airport has to be the quietest capital airport I've ever been too only one aircraft on view and that was an Twin Otter of Fiji Airlink which I had seen two years ago. After three nights we moved literally down the road to the 5 star Grand Pacific Hotel and what a place this is,we stayed in the original part of the hotel where we had our own separate lounge for free drinks and nibbles from 5pm-7pm and free breakfast the following morning. The couple we went with had paid for our room so it was only fair that I bought dinner,so a 3 course meal for 4 people with drinks in a 5 star restaurant set me back 479 Fiji dollars or roughly £180.
On the evening of our arrival (18th April),we had noticed a helipad just along the road which is also opposite the residence of the president of Fiji and just before it got dark two helicopters arrived:
DQ-HFC Agusta A109C
DQ-IHC AS350B2 Ecureuil
Wednesday 19th April
Just before we checked out another helicopter arrived at the helipad:
DQ-IHI AS350B2 Ecureuil
We then drove along the coast for our last two nights in Fiji, namely Tokatoka resort which is situated right opposite the main airport terminal building, after checking in,I took a stroll across the road to the airport where I logged the following:
VH-VQR A320 Jetstar
H4-BUS A320 Solomon Airlines
VH-YID B737 Virgin Australia
P2-PXC B737 Air Niugini
ZK-OJF A320 Air New Zealand
Thursday 20th April 2017
We went on a half day excursion returning to our hotel around lunchtime, after lunch I went across to the airport for about 45 minutes where I logged the following:
VH-YIF B737 Virgin Australia
DQ-FTI Cessna A152
VH-YIT B737 Virgin Australia
DQ-FTE Cessna 172R
Friday 21st April 2017
Departure day from Fiji,on my last visit two years ago they were doing up the departures area,it is now complete and it's fantastic, you get a good view of the two runways and if nothing is parked at gate 8 you can see across to the GA area and read a lot of the stuff off, logged this morning were:
DQ-SKI Cessna 172R
VH-LAW Global Express XRS
DQ-TAN DHC Beaver (floats)
DQ-SEA DHC Beaver (floats)
DQ-IHA Eurocopter EC120B Colibri
DQ-OMO DHC Beaver (floats)
Then it was time to board Korean Air flight KE138 A330 HL8211 (again) for the long flight back to Seoul.
