Gents, I have changed the banner shot but as I don't possess the know how that Jeff has for the colour coordinated title, I'm afraid the forum title is rather small for the time being. Hope you like the Victor though, for my money, one of the best looking military aircraft ever made.

A wondrous machine in my eyes Dave, beautifiul lines, she wouldn't look out of place if "new" in this day and age. I count myself so lucky to have logged a few during my early spotting years and seen quite a few in the air.

Those were the days... Classic machine.... And I think you are right about the position.... Could even be pre-T1 days!!! That would date it....

Yeah - that's what made me think T1 wasn't there... I could be wrong but I think you would have seen one of the fingers protruding from that point...
Still, whether it is or not, great shot.... I'm sure Tony will let us know.

Thanks Jeff, what a pleasant surprise! In future...1: can you make sure the plane is flying the right way round so the Air Berlin is not upside down on the fuselage and 2: the sky is the same colour blue as the border

Sincerest apologies!! I stand here suitably chastised....LOL
PS - none of the German carriers I saw over those 10-11 days carried the reg beneath the wings - Germania, German Wings, Condor, etc. Any idea why they don't carry them?

You do see a lot of newly registered German GA with the reg under the wing but like Jeff I don't know why the airliners have never done so.

All I can say is "Wow" Chris ! have you tried uploading that to Airliners.net? I dont do Airliners.net, also I dont think it would get accepted as its a little over exposed and a bit soft around the titles. I might do a bot more editing on this one

Pity that venture didn't work out. May have kept a few more classic airliners in the air. Great picture.

Hi OAP, to be honest this DC8 was my first memory of Lasham as i only moved to the area in the 90s...what was the story behind the venture?

Hi Jeff
Dredging around the grey cells, I think it was an idea by Freddie Laker to have this DC-8 fitted out for 'air cruises', ie fly to places in comfort and at a leisuely pace, much like sea going cruises. Anyway, obviously it wasn't a good business model and the plane languished at Lasham for some years before succumbing to the scrapman. A shame. Can't remember the airline name, unfortunately.

It was Imperial World Airlines. The business model was as Mike says, but Freddie was not involved with this one.

Apologies, grey cells not working. Any idea who was behind thatvthat vethat venture? I suspect that the timimg was was wrong and had the recession not have happened, it might just have worked.

Further to the DC-8, did it actually fly any 'air cruises'?
