The annual trip to the Bastille Day flypast took place last week. We would normally fly into Orly and spend the day before the flypast on the roof there but the law of diminishing returns has kicked in (made just 6 there all day last year) so this time we did CDG & Le Bourget that day instead of doing them after the flypast. Le Bourget produced the usual hordes of bizjets (at a rough count I made 43 of them which just under half of those there) and bizprops (which by and large I don’t do). Military/Government aircraft there included a C17; 2 German AF Global Express’ and an A340; two USAF Gulfstreams and a 757; a US Army Gulfstream; Moroccan AF C27J, Bae 146 & Gulfstream; Moroccan and Mali Gov’t 737s; and Falcons from the Congo, Gabon & Libyan Gov’ts. At great expense the Moroccans then re-positioned just down the road from Le Bourget to CDG to collect the officials who had attended the Bastille Day events (and who would have had to drive almost right past Le Bourget to get to CDG!). Clearly the owners of Global M-CCCP below have a sense of humour with the reg and the red star on the fin! 92 aircraft took part in the flypast plus 4 French AF Fennecs overhead on the usual camera and traffic duties, working together with a Sagem S15 Patroller drone F-WUAV (don’t do those either). The PdF opened the flypast (with 2 new ones for this year) as usual followed by this year’s foreign guests the Thunderbirds all the way from Fairford with 2 F22s which suffered somewhat from the red, white & blue smoke left by the PdeF. As the USAF were there to commemorate the centenary of the US entry to WW1 in 1917 I did rather expect the US formation to be anything up to 3 years late getting there, as they were in 1917! US Army Gulfstream 97-01944 is one of those re-serialled out of sequence to show a last 4 representing a notable event in US Army history and just carrying that last 4 on the fin. In this case (D-day) 1944. It was originally 97-0049 with the Air Force 89 AW VIP unit at Andrews AFB and a common European visitor. So just a few samples from Le Bourget & the flypast.
