Friday 11th August 2017
Lakenheath Absolutely dead day - not one single sortie was flown.
Arrivals 09.03BST "TUAF805" 15-0051 A.400M Turkish AF 15.02BST "RETRO91" 00-3003 F-15E 494FS )..........no markings, back from rework at WR-ALC, Ga 15.03BST "RETRO92" 00-3004 F-15E 494FS ) 16.32BST "HKY61" 08-8604/RS C-130J 37AS
Departure 16.32BST "HKY61" 08-8604/RS
The non-appearance of "RETRO93" was a let-down. A Polish F-16 (serial 4040) no less - and it decided it was going to head for Poland, rather than call in as planned.
I can only assume that the presence of the Turkish A.400 is down to Mildenhall's HAZMAT ramp (HS65) being required before the Turk is due to depart.
Mildenhall Very nice surprise (unscheduled) lunchtime visitor brought one passenger to Mildenhall from the "Bush".
Arrivals 13.00BST "TRIDENT11" 168581/AJ620 MH-60S HSC-9 15.06BST "BLUE43" 57-1419 KC-135R 133ARS/New Hampshire ANG on loan from 117ARS/Kansas ANG.....brought the "RETROs" back
Departures 13.19BST "TRIDENT11" 168581/AJ620 17.40BST "RG02" 162159/46 17.46BST "RG01" 162168/45
The Greyhounds have now gone for good to rejoin the Westward-bound "Bush" just S of the IOW. The departure of both was characterised by keeping the take-off very low and then banking left and right before entering a steep (and smoky) climb. This took place level with John's Field, so was obviously for the benefit of the photographers gathered there.

Monday 14th August 2017
A fantastic day for the spreadsheets - 10 made. Yes, ten!!!
Mildenhall Not a lot of movements today, but a lot of circuit-bashing from "QUID11/12" (both KC-135R 57-1493 still in Altus marks, but boom has 100ARW).
At 16.01BST, a very friendly Cranwell King Air "CWL76" decided to overfly the 'Hall at FL120 (below the cloudbase this time). It was my last one - ZK459/X.
Arrivals 13.57BST "RCH965" 59-1508 KC-135R 92ARW...........still has "McConnell" tailband 19.??BST "GOLD12" 87-0119 KC-10A 60AMW.........."Travis" tailband..........brought "RETRO61-66" over 21.51BST "CNV4522" 165832 C-40A VR-58
Departures 07.40BST "WELD81" 08-0050 )...............off to Souda Bay AB, Crete 08.06BST "WELD82" 12-0064 ) 15.04BST "RCH809" 92-3291
Lakenheath Quite a lot of based F-15C/D/E flying today, including "DUDE62" F-15E 00-3002 (missed it at Fairford on the Sunday). The last pair up actually did a pass down the runway as a pair of the Saudis were routing across it. Would have made a good photo.
2 x HH-60Gs landed during the evening, "JOLLY12" 89-26212 and "JOLLY11" 91-26353.
Arrivals 19.07BST "RETRO61" 12-1007 F-15SA ) 19.07BST "RETRO62" 12-1011 F-15SA ) 19.08BST "RETRO63" 12-1016 F-15SA )........on delivery to Saudi Arabian AF 19.08BST "RETRO64" 12-1031 F-15SA ) 19.09BST "RETRO65" 12-1037 F-15SA ) 19.09BST "RETRO66" 12-1038 F-15SA )
Departure 10.24BST "TUAF805" 15-0051

Morning Bob,
Sounds a great day mate...
10 must be a record for you (in recent years)?
Congrats.

Thanks, Bill. It was down to the Saudis, of course. But the other 4 would have been a nice haul by themselves.
I'm afraid that I can better the 10 very recently. I made all 18 of the Spang F-16s when they came in (that's what a 25 year lay-off does) and I made 12 when the A-10s came through (though I dropped 2 of the A-10s).
Cheers,
Bob

Tuesday 15th August 2017
Lakenheath Not at real "surge" levels but I counted 67 launches today of F-15C/D/Es (serials unknown - I wasn't over there)
Mildenhall Dead as a dodo!! Arrival 20.15BST "QID21" 58-0100 KC-135R 100ARW............back from TDY at Rota
Departures 08.11BST "WAKE41" 13-5786............off East somewhere 10.45BST "QID21" 61-0321............to Rota for two weeks TDY 11.11BST "RCH965" 59-1508 16.19BST "RCH228" 79-0433 16.33BST "CNV4522" 165832
KC-135 due early morning - I don't need it.
Last night tonight, back home tomorrow. Let's hope I can go out with a bang rather than a whimper!!
Still, I have made 40 on the trip. So, I am well pleased.

Whether that will be an emergency visit for the ANG F-15Cs returning from Romania (end of August/beginning of September) or the next month's stay in mid-September, I can't say at present.
Perhaps we will bump into each other again this year?
Cheers,
Bob

Wednesday 16th August 2017
Lakenheath Plenty of flying this morning from F-15C/D/Es (no serials known)
Mildenhall Not a lot going on. The Tornado hurtled through just as we were leaving.
Arrivals 07.04BST "RCH249" 62-3534 KC-135R 22ARW 10.37BST "RRR879" ZZ172 C-17A 99 Sqdn...........circuit bashed (T/Gs) until landing at 12.43BST 11.03BST "COBRA21" ZK382/BG Typhoon 29 Sqdn...........3 fast passes 11.08BST "RCH698" 59-1511 KC-135R 92ARW.............no fin band 15.37BST "MRH63" ZG775/134 Tornado Marham Wing....fast pass
Well that is it until the next time (see my comments to Mark above). Total of 41 made during the visit - which is very pleasing.
Hope you all have enjoyed the daily logs and thanks for all the views.
Cheers,
Bob

Thanks for the reports Bob, I for one really enjoy the read before bedtime! Glad you managed a very respectable 41 out of it, best I could do lately was just over 30 on the carrier. All the best Mark

Really enjoy your logs Bob. Thanks for such comprehensive reports. I haven't been to Mildenhall for over 45 years (!!), but have a great memory of an East Anglian road trip I did with my cousin back in 1971/2, when the exotic - and from memory, extensive - 'hall residents were supplemented by the F100 Super Sabres from Lakenheath, as the runway was being resurfaced. My own logs have been lost, but if I can get a record via my cousin, I'll post for interest. Thanks again Steve
