Gents, there have been three new forums start up since the demise of the FAB forum where many of us were regulars. All three, including ours here, are using the same Proboards hosting and rather peculiarly, all three are using the default colour scheme. Jeff and I will be testing out various themes during the day to make us stand out from the others and give us a unique look. Bear with us please, if anyone finds a particular theme totally awful just let us know but of course, it's always difficult to find one we all like. Thanks

Thanks for the rapid feedback chaps, I do agree that too many light colours can make using the forum rather difficult. The colours we started with, the blue and white are the default colours which everyone seems to use possibly because they don't want to start mucking about with the settings and are happy to settle for the default scheme. We will have a play around but as said, please feel free to comment, good or bad.

Red all the way, good contrast in bright light.

This scheme is similar to the colours used on airliners.net The main issue I see with this is that there is virtually no contrast between the headers and the contents

I don't like the all over blue look, the part red looked much neater.

Looks like red is in the lead. Red would look even better with a grey background for the main comments boxes but that isn't in the choices unfortunately.

The "other" new forum is on default..blue and black on white and is by far the easiest to read and these alternatives are not so good for old eyes that some of us have...

OK, we'll leave it on default for now, the available options are quite broad but many of then are with wishy washy colours such as yellows, very light blues and pinks, are way too dark or have little or no contrast.

Not really to do with the colour scheme etc, but it may be a good idea to shorten the title to Aviation For All, with the rest under a subheading or similar - would make it look cleaner

fab-aviation-group.proboards.com/Is the other group which has a lot of members that were on the original group, its a pit the two parties can not get together and form one group so we are all back together

I agree to an extent gulfstream but after the events of a few days ago, I'm not prepared, and I'm pretty sure Jeff feels the same way, to let the previous forum host have anything to do with this one, he's just too much of a wild card and he would no doubt demand some administration control which is a total non starter, seeing as what happened to FAB on Wednesday. By all accounts, some members of the old place offered to take it over if he wanted out, but that was firmly denied, so 8-9 years worth of history, logs, photos and everything else disappeared on a whim.
Thanks for the idea Kyle, I'll have a fiddle around in a bit, but need to start preparing Sunday lunch.

Im not sure it is run by the same person as before, he was a hot head and has lost us a lot of information that was collected over the years, and for me that was a pretty mean thing to do to all those that have contributed over the years.

Hi Graham,I have joined the new FAB site and the new Blackbushe site,in the hope that if Peters wonderful archive does not appear on here, it may appear on one of the others. I just hope you know who is not a part of either of them.

Never used these free online forums. Mostly used ones that people add on their personal domain. Forums such as phpBB which UKAR uses. But I could do the colours myself bespoke if you have any in mind or a logo if needed if proboards allows you to do that. Also, does anyone know the administrator of this forum fab-aviation-group.proboards.com/? I think its best to have everyone in one place then we could share more information.

Thanks jpzone, the reason we opted for Proboards is because that's what the old FAB forum used so most members would be familiar with how it worked. Thanks too for your offer to help with colours and the like, we'll see how things go for the next few days. Ideally we would like red banners with grey message boxes but there's no mad rush, as we'd like to get the basics running at 100% first/
Filair, as far as I'm aware, the new FAB forum has been started by our friend who ran the old one. I won't be signing up for sure, too risky, and if it's run in the same dogmatic and erratic way, then I don't want anything to do with it. So much was lost with a click of that mouse, much of it irreplaceable despite reassurances being given just that morning that "all was fine". I too hope that Peter's marvellous thread is resurrected, but I very much doubt that it will be here, as we don't have access to the Proboard archives where it is stored. I started to copy and paste it once we thought the FAB forum was going to fold, but it was such a massive piece of work that I only had chance to save a fraction of it before the plug was pulled. I believe that the new Blackbushe forum is Peter's baby so I'd find it hard to understand if our previous "leader" was wanted there due to his actions but it's Peter's call of course.

I believe the other forum was set up by guys from the EGLF mailing list, some of which were also on the old forum. I also believe tony will be setting up an independent farnborough site with members only access sometime in the near future

Would be nice if everyone could get together but realistically that's never going to happen.
Having been part of the original Farnborough mailing list, that splintered in to two and then another came along and then so on...the joys of the internet.
Whilst its a shame that Peters thread has been lost and the previous forum, we all signed up to the T&C's so we are all aware that the plug can be pulled at anytime, we did all read the T&C's didn't we ;-)
Its good to see a new forum(s) take its place and look forward to this one growing in time.

Thank you FL, we will try our best to make this forum the best out there. Any forum is the sum total of its members and it's very pleasing to see so many distinguished names from the old place here already.
