I went on the 13th and spied a glider in the hanger by the clubhouse which I wrote down as having code "ESS" on the fin. Was this G-KESS from Ringmer? I have not seen any other mention of it here yet? (or missed it!) There are only four current UK regs ending in ESS and this is the only glider. MTIA Bob hi your glider was G-CFSS seaharrier regards bob

That caught me out, I was watching local stuff land and missed a few competition machines last Sunday. I was by a lumber yard which was ok for approach photos. Still made a hatfull though. Had I walked 50 yards more I'd of seen competition stuff being towed off runway 😩 I had positioned myself further along until I realised I was stood on an ants nest so retreated back.

Please can someone help me with one of the German registered gliders. I've paid two visits to this event, both Sundays, on 13th & 20th. On 13th, I had to catch many of the competitors on their return as I missed the earlier departures. On 13th I read one off on it's return as D-2004. A week later on 20th, armed with more knowledge than I had the previous week, I took advantage of the 10:00am tour, where about half of the competition were still in their covers, so I waited for the mass departure to catch those that were covered up. I successfully read them off except one with a highly reflective registration, which is the one I need help with. I guessed it was the 'D-2004' of the previous week, someone else read it as D-2604. I have seen that one on the list, however this is the omly photo I can find of 'D-2604': www.airplane-pictures.net/photo/203259/d-2604-private-schempp-hirth-ventus/ If it was as in that photo, I think I'd have read it off with no problems. My question is, has D-2604 had some kind of 'makeover' since 2012 (when the photo was taken) including a much harder to read reflective reggie. Was D-2004 present on 13th or did I mis-read '2604'? Many thanks to anyone who can help.

I have a video clip with D-2604, coded A8 on the starting grid. I did not see D-2004. However, it could quite easily be mistaken D-2004... I've managed to take this picture from the video clip. D-2604 /A8 is at the back.

Thanks Bob, I'll correct/ add those points.
I'm fairly certain that 269 was correct- it was the very last glider right up the far eastern end, where the old museum used to be. But I can't find any record of it!
D-2604 was a query of lordevanelpuss.
There seems to be some confusion over whether D-2004 was there as well. I definitely didn't see it.
cheers

And thanks Bill - unfortunately I didn't see D-2004, but you confirming that they were both there may help others. Or it it may confuse the issue further...!
Cheers

Hi all
I visited on Sunday 13/08/17 from 09.50 to 15.00 and I didn't log D-2004, if it was present it wasn't amongst the batches of competition gliders as my tail numbers tie up with the competitors. I did log some non-competition German gliders but none of them were D- numerical.
I suspect the lettering on D-2604/A8 is at the root of this issue.
Regards
John

I first did a search on the registration D-2004 which didn't come up with anything. More recently I did a search on the type of glider that D-2004 is. In my Air Britain European Registers Handbook for 2017, it is a Scheibe Bergfalke 111. This is what a Bergfalke 111 looks like: www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled/Scheibe-Bergfalke-III/569101 The glider that I took down as 'D-2004' certainly didn't look like one of those! Thanks to the photo of a few posts back it must have been a mis-read of D-2604, as this is what the aircraft I got a quick look at as it landed on 13th looked like. Many thanks to everyone for their help with my query.

I had a great morning at the Championships this morning and I have a few queries if anyone can help please. I have no types for the following D-KWEB, D-2787, D-2604, OK-2992. One other note if anyone is interested, at the Heritage Centre, the Weihe was formerly G-ALJW which is indicated under the cockpit
