It is time for the changeover of the F-15E unit out in the "sandpit". The 4FW from Seymour Johnson AFB, NC will deploy out there, thus enabling the 494FS/48FW to return to home base at Lakenheath.
Info from twitter.com/papaalphafox, though I knew already - but not the exact details
TABOR31-36 ARR 16.30BST Saturday 30/09/2017 TABOR41-46 ARR 17.00BST Saturday 30/09/2017
TABOR51-56 ARR (possibly 17.00) Sunday 01/10/2017.........when it is forecast to be raining. LOL
Tankers are using the "CLEAN" callsigns.
Departures will be two days later.
For those interested, the relevant NOTAMS are (add 1hr to the times for BST):- and Note that the arrival times could be as much as 30 - 40 minutes earlier than stated, so allow yourselves plenty of time if you are going.

Bit of a let down today. Looks like it will be just "TABOR31/32/35/36" arriving - ETA now 15.45BST.
"TABOR33/34" diverted to Westfield Barnes IAP, MA, with "TABOR33" taking the cable.
The TABORs are accompanied by KC-135R "CLEAN82" (for Mildenhall).
CLEAN91" KC-10A 79-1951 is going to Moron AB, Spain. I need it.

EDIT:- They are parked on "Alpha" ramp - which means a very long walk down that field and look across towards the main gate. They should also be visible from The Warren.

Well, TABOR41-46 managed to get as far as Nova Scotia, but CLEAN91 cancelled and the TABOR flight has diverted into Westfield - Barnes, MA.
This whole deployment is going disastrously!!!

Looks like they are trying again tomorrow - new NOTAM posted. Arrival now about 17.15 - 17.45.
This time it looks as if they are going to forget about sending a KC-10 to Moron as well.

Lovely weather....not!! Raining well and a distinct lack of the usual hoards of people to witness their arrival.
Anyway the four stragglers from the previous two flights have now made it over, plus one out of the 6 at Bangor. There should have been another one from Bangor - "TABOR41" - but it had problems and cancelled.
Arrival was between 18.06 and 18.08BST. Landing order was:-
"TABOR33" 87-0181/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW "TABOR34" 89-0505/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW "TABOR35" 87-0177/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW "TABOR36" 88-1675/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW "TABOR42" 89-0474/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW
Their tanker, KC-10A 87-0124 of 305AMW, landed at Mildenhall at 18.18BST.
This leaves 5 at Bangor still to come.

Monday 9th October 2017
"TABOR51-56" eventually got away after being messed about by French ATC denying them airspace for about two hours. Accompanying tanker was "CLEAN08" KC-10A 87-0124 which was doing a round trip from Mildenhall. Tanking was taken over in the Med by "CLEAN07" KC-10A 79-1951.
Serials were (in take-off order):- 89-0495/SJ 89-0474/SJ 88-1675/SJ 87-0175/SJ 87-0177/SJ 89-0505/SJ
Which leaves just 87-0181/SJ.

Yep, TABOR41 Flight of the SJs are airborne; should be with us around 16.30 (give or take). Tanker is KC-10A 83-0080.
Note that the remaining 6 x LN F-15Es of 494FS should be back same day as the SJs depart.
Note that two F-22s are currently away at Spangdahlem - don't know how long for.

This is not going well. Two dropped out into Gander IAP - serials reported as being 89-0490/SJ and 89-0503/SJ.
Three did manage to make the trip and turn up.
"TABOR41" 88-1669/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW "TABOR42" 88-1668/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW "TABOR43" 88-1671/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW
All parked on Alpha ramp with the other one.
Incidentally, the two F-22s returned at lunchtime.

Monday 16th October 2017
Three of the four departed at 05.50BST, shattering the peace.
87-0181/SJ 88-1669/SJ 88-1671/SJ
This leaves 88-1668/SJ to await the other two.
There is a suitable NOTAM up for tomorrow, but there is the nagging suspicion that it might be for some LN F-15s to return from rework. Time will tell.

Wednesday 18th October 2017
The remaining two arrived at Lakenheath late afternoon on a very murky day. Thank goodness that it had stopped p***ing down with rain.
16.56BST "TABOR45" 88-1682/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW 16.56BST "TABOR46" 88-1687/SJ y F-15E 336FS/4FW
These are two completely different aircraft to the two that were reported as having diverted into Gander.
Accompanying tanker was "CLEAN97" 63-8029 KC-135R of 141ARS/New Jersey ANG, which dragged them all the way.

Finally, they made it out!!
08.58BST "TABOR44" 88-1668/SJ 08.58BST "TABOR45" 88-1682/SJ 08.58BST "TABOR46" 88-1687/SJ
Accompanying tanker was "CLEAN99" KC-135T 60-0344 out of Mildenhall.
I think that this deployment will go down in history as being one to forget.
