I keep missing the AN 12s they sound great but do they have to fly in cloud or when crisp and clear without lights?

Bit of a mixed bag here today, weather was fine while I was at work but became cloudy after getting home,on the up side I had a text about TC-TUR A332 heading east just before leaving, went outside and was duly noted.Nothing else graced the pages after that, just too much cloud and not enough blue,so just one for the day.
