Have got round to putting the regs in Aerodata so will add on day by day.
The main reason for this trip was to see the balloons at Albuquerque and we managed a night glow followed by a mass launch the next day. But we also wanted to visit some of the smaller airfields in the region.
So to start of it was a relaxing drive up to Heathrow as we were on the BA flight that goes late afternoon.

After a 10 and a half hour flight we landed at Phoenix/Sky Harbor in the early evening and managed to get the following while waiting to get off.

After a long queue at Border Control it was straight to the Car Rental and Hotel which was the Best Western Airport Hotel.

Day 2 Phoenix - Tucson
We paid a quick visit to Sky Harbor driving down Old Tower Road to get any biz and Cargo, didn't stop as had an appointment to keep at the next airfield.

Next stop was Stellar Airpark where we had emailed a couple of months ago to see if we could take photos of the planes parked on the main apron. We got a reply saying yes but could it be the morning and let them know when at the gate. So we arrived and met by an ex U.S.A.F F-4 pilot and he took us through the gate and his house where we had a chat and drink before going out back to his hanger where he had a Lancair. Plus we met his neighbour who had a Stearman. Then he took us on a tour of the whole airfield on the back of a golf buggy stopping to take photos.

Day 3 Tucson - Truth or Consequences After breakfast we drove down to Davis Monthan. Two years ago we had a flight over AMARG and managed to get all the planes stored their thanks to the website that lists all the stored aircraft, plus we visited Pima as well. So this time we decided to look at a couple of the scrapyards that surround the base. First we drove round to the RMI Yard on East Nebraska St and Ktech Aviation on South Wilmot Road. Plus I filmed while we drove down South Kolb St of the lines of C-130's and parked down E Escalante Rd for photos of some of the C-130's and P-3's Davis Monthan scrapyards 12/10/17 141003 C-131 141004 C-131 141006 C-131 141007 C-131 146025 C-1A 146028 C-1A 146031 C-1A 147874 US-2D 147877 US-2D 147878 US-2D 148720 US-2D 148735 US-2D 148737 US-2D 148741 US-2D 148750 US-2D 149235 US-2D 149238 US-2D 149239 US-2D 149869 S-2E 54-2819 C-131 64-0497 C-130 N123KJ C-123 N146JS T-43 N428DF TS-2A N717AU SP-2H N920AU P-3A N921AU P-3A N2286Y C-27 N12-152816 S-2 N12-153598 S-2 saw this at the Queens Jubilee 1977 N12-153604 S-2 saw this at the Queens Jubilee 1977 N12-153566 S-2 There was so many more in the two scrapyards but had the marks scrubbed off or to faded to read. The former Australian Navy Trackers reported by Oakleaf in the United Aero Corp yard adjacent to DM are fairly new arrivals. United acquired these for their large spares collection from the Yungur Aviation store at West Sale, Victoria. They acquired a total of 11 Trackers from Oz in 2016/17 viz - 152800,152805,152809,152811,152816,152837,153566,153576,153578,153598, and 153604. Of these 153566 was a surprising arrival as it had been displayed for many years outside the Gippsland Armed Forces Museum at West Sale, while 153598 was at the 1977 Greenham Common show where I photographed her arrival (below). Even before these arrived I counted 88 Trackers in the United store when I last visited 3 years ago, many of which have been in the yard for some 30 years or so, even after leaving the main AMARC store. Tracker spares are still in demand, primarily for the fire fighting aircraft. 77-ef by dave tompkins, on Flickr

Thanks Dave there was alot more we could not read off in the scrapyard.
Day 4 Truth or Consequences - Albuquerque
First stop of the day was Truth or Consequences where only one was noted.

Next was Albuquerque International where we had a pre-arranged tour of Eclipse Aviation. We arrived abit early so went to the viewing area on Spirit Drive which overlooks runway 03/21 not much happening so did a slow drive around the general aviation area which is a cul-de-sac on Clark Carr Rd. Next went for the tour which was very good as were allowed to take photos in the hangers, execpt one which was ready to go into the paint shop but we were allowed to have a look inside this aircraft. After the tour we went back and did another slow drive round the general aviation to get any we had missed. We then drove to the terminal area where we spotted signs for another viewing area, but it was closed as they were digging up the road which is a shame as looking on Google Earth you are right by one of the terminal aprons and can see one of the runways as well.

Next went to the hotel to drop the bags of Best Western Rio Grande Inn, and then it was a 15-20 min drive down to the Balloon site where we had read that the queues can be long and to take a torch we you as the car-parks are not well lit. Well we had no problems getting in a managed to park right by one of the gates into the arena which was really lucky as when we left it was really easy to find the car and no torch was needed. We sat down soaking up the atmosphere and watching all the vans coming into the arena with their balloons. After a while a balloon started to be inflated so we wandered over to it and watched, as soon as it was fully inflated a mass cheer went up by the crowd watching and was also the sign for the other balloons to start getting ready for the night glow. We started to walk round trying to get as many while they were laid out flat but that was a waste of time as most regs were on the underside of the balloon and the American reg has to be the smallest, so annoying plus it was getting dark so even the foreign balloons were impossible to read. Will have to wait for a report to get the rest. So below are the ones I managed to read of before giving up.
Balloons 13/10/17 N74500 R44 News camera G-LEAT G-UINS G-WINZ N105CN N216BB N315LL N542JC N542TR N795KR N954DK N4164M N7142S N9125S OO-BQZ OO-BTU PP-XUK XB-OZP
Just as we got to the far end of the arena one of the balloons broke free and lifted off as the wind suddenly got up, so all the other balloons deflated. Must say it was a very impressive night glow and would recommend going as there were at least 100 ballons and you can walk around with no barriers stopping you getting up close to the balloons.

Day 5 Albuquerque A very early start today, parked up by 4:15am and straight in to the arena at 4:30am when the gates opened. Found a place to sit down and was suprised how many people were turning up as the laser show was not on until 5:45am which I must say was impressive. At just before 6:00am we noticed a line of balloons being inflated so wandered over to read them off and watch them do a show of lighting up the burners in different pattens was a good show as still dark. Then a single balloon was inflated and a big cheer went up from the crowd as it lifted off with the American flag dangling below the basket, which also gave the signal for the mass launch to start. Below is a log of what I managed to write down as there were so many could not get them all and the reg on American balloons are so small. Day 7 Albuquerque - Santa Fe Instead of driving I-25 to Santa Fe we drove the scenic Turquoise Trail which included going up the top of Sandia Crest, looking round Tinkertown Museum, Madrid and Los Cerrillos. First aircraft stop of the day was to take a photo of the F-16 at NM ANG Headquarters. We had emailed before leaving home to ask if it was possible. Got the OK and was escorted in a told which way to take the photo so no building were in the background. Santa Fe ANG 16/10/17 79-0404 F-16 Next stop was Santa Fe airport where we parked up and asked if we could walk round the fence taking photos, got the go ahead plus had a nice chat with one of the security guards in the terminal as there are a couple of scheduled flights. Day 8 Santa Fe - Monument Valley
This was mainly a sightseeing day going to the Four Corners Monument and it was a 6 hour drive between point A and B non-stop. But we did manage to call into Farmington/Four Corners Regional Airport. Drove into the car-park in front of the small terminal which was free to park, asked the airport manager if it was possible to walk the fence and take photos and got the all clear.

Our hotel for the night was the Goulding's Lodge which is right under Rock Door Mesa and had a view of Monument Valley. Our lodge was not in the main complex but across the main road right next to the airstrip which we looked at the next day. The sunset and sunrise is a must see as the view is stunning.

Day 9 Monument Valley - Flagstaff
Yesterday while having a meal at the hotel resturant looking out the window we noticed a microlight on the airstrip, and looked like it was night stopping so decided to visit in the morning as it was dark by the time we had finished eating. Next morning went to the airstrip where the pilot was getting ready to depart.

Next stop was Kayenta which has a small airstrip nobody about and only two aircraft here.
Kayenta 18/10/17 N60VP Beech C90 N2108R Cessna 182
Next we drove past Tuba City but nothing parked on the apron and no hangers so did not stop. Next was Flagstaff where we drove down S Piper Ln and parked up and asked in a hanger if it was possible to photo the helicopters inside, yes no problem come in plus you can have a look at the couple out front bonus. Next drove round to Wiseman Aviation and asked if we could walk the fence around their car-park got the go ahead. Then went round to the terminal carpark and asked the airport manager if we could walk along the fence, yes of course and said if any one asks say that he let us.

Thanks Graham every airfield we visited we asked before wandering around and everybody we asked were very friendly as we talked to them a bit about the hobby and some even said as soon as they heard the English accent they knew what we wanted to do. Plus we only got what we could see and kept to the fence by car-parks or pavements (didn't wander off into the undergrowth and anytime airside did'nt try and look in any closed hangers so to keep owners happy and not to spoil it for any future spotters that visit). So some places there were so many more aircraft then what we managed to write down as all hangers were closed as it was weekdays. With Gilda River Memorial, we had seen that on Google Earth while planning on airfields to visit each day and had penciled it in, but while we were having the trip round Stellar Airpark and saying what other places we were going that day, we were told that they were not very friendly as it was on an Indian Reservation so we decided to give it a miss.
Thanks for all the comments so far, was a very enjoyable trip still have a couple more days to put up.

Day 10 Flagstaff - Flagstaff First stop was Williams where we had breakfast in a diner and watched the Grand Canyon train depart, then went to the airport where only one was noted and no-one around to ask. Williams 19/10/17 N8294Y PA-30 Next stop was Valle to have a look around the Planes of Fame Grand Canyon Museum. Very good museum with plenty of light inside and well spaced out to get photos looked out side and peaked through the fence into the storage area where it looked like a B-29 fuselage and loads of bits of wings and tails which all went unidentified. As it was only lunch time we decided to head up to Grand Canyon National Park Airport as it was only 20 mins up the road and we also did the South Rim afterwards which is an amazing sight to see. Have seen the Grand Canyon from the air but is so much better from the ground. Back to the airport first stop was the apron shared by Maverick Helicopters one side and Grand Canyon Helicopters the other. Next we drove down to the terminal and timed it just right as there where a load of Twin Otters loading up and departing on mass as we were in the little viewing area. While they were departing a load of Maverick EC130's arrived back on their apron so went back up to them before continuing down Liberator Drive which follows the fence along the apron. Then on the way out stopped at the Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters apron. This was a very active field with Twin Otters, Cessna 208, EC120 and Bell 206 coming and going. Next it was Deer Valley parked up and went into the building which as an amazing viewing area across the massive apron (It's abit like the viewing area at Shoreham airport) but has the added bonus of on the upper level some shade and seating plus a couple of speakers each tuned to a different fequency (tower, ground and approach). After getting as much as possible we wandered around edge of the car-park. Next we drove along the perimeter road going up each spur road.

Day 12 Goodyear - Phoenix last day First stop was down to Goodyear first stop was the car-park off Boeing Blvd to read off some of the aircraft stored or being worked on. Next it was to the car-park on W Goodyear Airport Blvd to read off aircraft on the apron and to view what was stored over the far side, not as much as two years ago so did not venture down the dirt track that goes alongside the stored aircraft (did this two years ago). Then we went and parked up on Piper Lane and walked back to view through the fence getting all the Lufthansa Flight School and CTC Flight School. First of we drove along E Falcon Dr and read of what we could and did a circuit of E Fighter Aces Dr to see what we could get. Then it was of to the museum which is very good and the restoration hanger was open to have a wander around. Outside you could get close up to the B-17 and read off everything that was taking off (was a very active airfield). Over the far side we could see two Canberra's so followed the road along the edge and went up E Mallory Cir which goes along the back of the Canberras. Fantastic Chris, read and thoroughly enjoyed each day's log and report. I saw all those United 757s during my two trips to Chicago in 2006 & 2007
